Activision donates 1 million to help veterans on release date of Modern Warfare 2
Activision has announced a new initiative which will see them donating upwards of $1 million dollars to help veterans through a non-profit corporation called CODE (The Call of Duty Endowment). It will launch on the same day as Modern Warfare 2 releases (on Veteran’s Day, November 10th).

The new corporation is designed to help veterans returning from war to smoothly transition into civilian careers.

The advisory council members of CODE include: MG Matthew P. Caulfield (USMC-Ret.), COL Roger Dimsdale (USA-Ret.), RADM Ronne Froman (USN-Ret.), CPT Gordon H. Mansfield (USA-Ret.), BG James A. “Spider” Marks (USA-Ret.), GEN Montgomery C. Meigs (USA-Ret.), SFC Steve Robinson (USA-Ret.), BG Harry A. Sieben, Jr. (USANG-Ret.), MG Craig Whelden (USA-Ret.) and MCPO Maurice Wilson (USN-Ret.)

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick told the Washington Post, “The joblessness rate that [veterans] should have should be far less than the national average, not more. How do you expect people to actually join the military if when they leave the military they can’t integrate back into the free market they’re supposed to be protecting?”

Eighteen percent of veterans who left the military in the past one to three years were unemployed, according to a 2008 Department of Veterans Affairs employment survey, reports the Washington Post.

Here is the launch trailer for Modern Warfare 2, which is out now on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
