  • 1. Make a shortcut to your desktop of “daorigins.exe” (Dragon Age/bin_ship/daorigins.exe). Note: use the .exe that is found in the “/bin_ship/” folder, because multiple wrong daorigins.exe are in the parent folder.
    2. Bring up shortcut properties.
    3. Under “Target” add the following: -enabledeveloperconsole (after — “daorigins.exe” ).
It will say target invalid unless you put a space between “-enabledeveloperconsole” and “C:\Program Files (x86)\Dragon Age\Bin_ship\daorigins.exe”.
    4. Now go into the keybindings.ini file, which should be located in “My Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\Settings\”.
    5. Find the line “OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_X” (GRAVE is default, change X to any button that is not already used in the game.)
    6. Save the file.
    7. Start the game with the shortcut you created on your desktop (daorigins.exe – shortcut).
    8. In-game, you press the key that you have chosen and then type any of the codes below.
    9. To enable the cheat codes console in the Steam version, right click on the game icon (in Steam), and select “properties”. Then click “Set Launch Options”. Finally enter “-enabledeveloperconsole” into the box and hit OK. Once you’ve loaded your last save, hit the “~” tilde button on your keyboard, and then type any of the codes below.

This video by Rose shows how to enable cheat codes:

Warning: While most of these codes work fine. The developers of the game have pointed out that this is a dev panel and as a result using some of the commands may break your current save game, so it’s best to back it up before you try anything. Reader Cgoodno suggests staying away from immortal, addparty, ai off, killallhostiles, chargen, zz_pre_demo2, zz_pre_strategy, and similar commands.

And don’t forget to check out our Dragon Age: Origins characters list and our Dragon Age: Origins wallpaper page.

Thanks to Paul for the Steam tip, and Huor & Cranberry for helping out.

Some more info for those that are interested (and sorry, I can’t help with those who can’t get the console working).

In my steam version, I only get the letters and numbers at the top of the screen if I start typing “runscript” into the console – if my first character isn’t an “r”, I don’t get any feedback that the console is opened (“runscript” is the only script command that is enabled in the release version).

When using the “addxp” script, be aware that there is a hard-cap at level 25, the script won’t work beyond this level (soft-cap is at around level 22 if you do everything in the game).

The “runscript addtalent ” command can be used to add talents (e.g. if you hit the level cap before you have all the talents you want). is the numeric code of the talent. Skills can also be added using a similar script.

Talent codes, and lots of other information about advanced cheat commands (character codes, stat codes, item codes etc) can be found by browsing through these forums:

(the page I linked to shows the mage talents, browse other pages for other info).

There doesn’t seem to be any easy way to bind a keyboard command (in the ini file) to a script because of the way the binding works – I think you’d need to create a mod to do this.

Finally, the modding toolset (available free from Bioware after registering your CD key) can be used to edit save games. Go to “My Documents\Bioware\Dragon Age\Characters\\Saves\” and open the first “.das” file (the largest file in the folder) in the modding toolset. Your player stats can be found by navigating the tree as follows:

Here you will find your spelllist, talentlist, skilllist, statlist etc. You’ll need to know the numeric codes for the spells/talents/skills (as you would for the runscript cheats), but the stats (strength, magic etc) can be edited directly as they’re just numbers – the stats aren’t named, so you’ll need to know the original value to find the right one (e.g. if your magic score is 25, you need to find the stat with the value “25” to increase it). Make sure you save a new game before messing around with the save files, as you could corrupt the save if you make a mistake!

@Nakls – I found money cheat works fine (I cheated 2000 gold in two separate 1000 gold lots), and none of it has disappeared. Also save games haven’t disappeared, but I noticed on my Bioware profile that my character stats haven’t updated since I started cheating (although the achievements I got after cheating are there).

Seems I used some illegal characters (angled brackets) above that got deleted when I posted the comment.

Paragraph 4 should start: The “runscript addtalent _x_” command can be used to add talents (e.g. if you hit the level cap before you have all the talents you want). x is the numeric code of the talent.

And the folder for save games is:

      My Documents\Bioware\Dragon Age\Characters\_character_name_\Saves\_save game_folder_

WTF all tutorial about this cheats are WRONG
I find out how to do this.

You have to put this way bin_ship\daorigins.exe” -enabledeveloperconsole

the -enabledeveloperconsole must be AFTER the f*cking “

    • Dana

Hm well this does work. I’m using a non steam version, but the damned game keeps crashing now. How the hell do i fix this?

    • Bris

      is this right?
      target: “C:\Program Files\Dragon Age\bin_ship\daorigins.exe -enabledeveloperconsole.exe”
if it is why cheats don’t work?

    • Matt

I go through all the steps and I even get the symbols at the top of screen when I type the “r” for “runscript”…..however when I am finished typing the symbols remain and none of the in-game buttons work or function.

    • :D

      ok,so when i click properties,do i type: -enabledeveloperconsole in space where is : “H:\Program Files\Dragon Age – Origins\DAOriginsLauncher.exe”
should it be like this: “H:\Program Files\Dragon Age – Origins\DAOriginsLauncher.exe”-enabledeveloperconsole
      or how :/ ??
