If you haven’t heard, the folks at 2D Boy, developer of World of Goo, are offering a very interesting experiment/sale in which you can download World of Goo for any price!
No that is not a typo! Whether you want to pay 50 cents for it, the $5, $15 or over the full price of $20, the choice is entirely up to you! This experiment was ran due to the game’s 1-year anniversary, and to shine the spotlight back on the series.
What’s really interesting is the World of Goo Pay What You Want sales data, and how the developer was able to make over $100,000 dollars in sales! That’s money they otherwise wouldn’t have seen. In fact the sale was such a overwhelmingly huge success, that they have extended it until October 25th! So if you haven’t picked the game up, then please do! There’s no excuse not too!
The majority of people paid around $2 for the game, the reason being? They simply didn’t have much money to go around in general.
It’s a really interesting scheme and I hope that other developers try this out as well. Imagine if you could get some of your favorite games for WHATEVER price you deemed it was worth. I certainly think this would also make a huge dent in piracy.
In other World of Goo news ,the game will be coming to the iPhone soon! Although it doesn’t have a release date yet, they already have the game up and running. So expect it sooner rather than later.
