How to Catch Mew in Pokemon Yellow
There is no official way to catch Mew in Pokemon Yellow. The only way was to have visited a Nintendo Event where he was uploaded to your copy of the game. So in order to get yourself a Mew, you will need to find a friend’s copy who DOES have Mew, and then trade. Alternatively, you can use a cheat device to unlock him, but be warned that this and other methods may mess your game up. If that happens we are not responsible, use at your own discretion.

Mew Glitch
There is a glitch you can use to catch Mew, however use it at your own risk. To do this trick, do not fight the Gambler facing the house in between Lavender Town and Saffron City. Instead, go to the door of the house and save your game. (Note that Mew may be erased if you save after catching him). Now step towards the gambler and immediatly press start. If done correctly you will bring up the Start Menu before the Gambler sees you. Now select your Flying Pokemon and Fly to Cerulean City. The gambler will then see you but you will Fly away. (Your Start, A, and B buttons will not work during this point). Walk up Nugget Bridge and then go to the 5th Trainer after Nugget Bridge (He will be facing up). He is a Youngster with a Slowpoke. Defeat his Slowpoke, and then your Start, A, and B buttons will function again. Now Fly back to Lavender Town and walk towards Saffron City. Your Menu should pop up by itself. Hit B to exit it, and then you will enter a battle with a Mew, where you can try to capture it. Good luck! You also may be able to trade Mew once capture to another Pokemon game, and then have Mew permanently (note that this hasn’t been tested, try at your own risk).
Here is a video guide using the above glitch to catch Mew! (thx to Neadoe)

How to Get Mewtwo
To get Mewtwo in Pokemon Yellow, you must have beaten the game first. Now go to Cerulean City and walk past the five Trainers. Take a left and you will be in a grassy area. Then continue down the water using Surf until you see land. Get out of the water and onto that land and then enter the dungeon cave (if you haven’t finished the game, a guy will be blocking the entrance). Now work your way through the dungeon until you reach the bottom floor. You will see Mewtwo. Use your Master Ball to catch him!
How to Catch Squirtle
To get Squirtle in Pokemon Yellow you need to beat Lt. Surge. Now go talk to Officer Jenny in the middle of the city. She will give you Squirtle as a reward.
How to Get Charmander
To get Charmander in Pokemon Yellow, beat the five Trianers on the bridge that leads north in Cerulean City. After this, talk to the guy nearby in the square. He will give you a Charmander.
How to Get Bulbasaur
To get Bulbasaur in Pokemon Yellow, you must have beat Misty (the Water Gym Leader) as well as conquered Nugget Bridge and reached Bill’s House. Now defeat the Rocket to get the Dig Ability. Once you have that, go back Cerulean City and talk to a lady in one of the buildings who has a few Pokemon (including a Bulbasuar). If your Pikachu has reached a certain “happiness” level (see the trick above. To make Pikachu happy you need to give him at least 5 potions after his HP is already at max) she will give you Bulbasaur. Alternatively, if you don’t have Pikachu yet and you talk to her, she will give you her Bulbasaur.

How to Get Raichu
The best way to get Raichu in Pokemon Yellow is to have a friend or someone else trade you a Pikachu. Particularly if they have Red or Blue versions where Pikachu isn’t a “special” Pokemon. After they trade with you, use a Thunder Stone on the Pikachu to turn him into Raichu. Alternatively, you can do this without having being traded a Pikachu by using your own Pikachu . . . Yes, the one that follows you. First you need to trade the lil bastard to someone with Pokemon Red or Blue. After it reaches level 50 or 60, trade it back and then use a Thunder Stone on him to turn him into Raichu. If you do this however, he will no longer follow you. So use at your own risk.
How to Get Amnesia Psyduck (via Pokemon Stadium)
There is a super secret and special hidden ability attached to a special Pokemon concealed deep inside Pokemon Stadium for the Nintendo 64. To get it, you must register ALL 151 Pokemon in the Hall of Fame in Pokemon Stadium (which will take quite a while, be warned). Whenever you beat a tournament (or Gym Leader Castle), your six Pokemon are entered into the Hall of Fame in Pokemon Stadium. It doesn’t matter whether you use rental Pokemon or your own creatures, but you must have every Pokemon registered (including Mew, who is a rental Pokemon in Stadium, making it easy to have him registered in the Hall of Fame). Once the Hall of Fame is full, you will be awarded the mysterious Amnesia Psyduck! This Pokemon is special because he knows a move called Amnesia. You can now upload Amnesia Psyduck to your Game Boy game.
How to Get Surfing Pikachu (via Pokemon Stadium)
You can unlock a special mini-game called “Pikachu’s Beach” and a special “Surfing Pikachu” (a Pikachu that knows the Surf HM move) by using the Nintendo 64 game Pokemon Stadium and linking it to Pokemon Yellow via a Transfer Pak accessory. This accessory plugs into the bottom of the N64 controller and allows you to link up with Pokemon Game Boy games.
To teach a Pikachu the Surf move (a move he can’t learn otherwise), you need to first unlock the R-2 (Round 2) mode in Pokemon Stadium. Now do the following steps:
1. Enter the R-2 Prime Cup’s Master Ball division (you have to beat the first three divisions first).
2. Assemble a team that contains a Pikachu that does not yet know Surf. You HAVE to use a Pikachu from your Game Boy game. You cannot unlock Surfing Pikachu using a Rental Pokémon.
3. Do not register your team! Pick it directly from your Game Boy cartridge.
4. You now have to beat the Prime Cup’s Master Ball division using a three-Pokémon team that always contains Pikachu. Pikachu has to be in every one of the eight battles.
5. You are not allowed to use any continues. If you do, you won’t get Surfing Pikachu.
6. Once you have fulfilled all the above conditions, you are shown an award screen with Pikachu standing on a surfboard. From here on, Pikachu can use the Surf technique both in battle and during gameplay!
8. Now in the Game Boy game (which can be played on your TV using Pokemon Stadium), go south of Fuschia City and into the house at the beach (a special area that does not appear in Pokemon Red or Blue). Talk to the man inside while making sure Pikachu is in your party. If done successfully you should also now be able to play a new mini-game called Pikachu’s Beach!
How to Catch Zapdos
To catch the legendary Pokemon Zapdos, you must first have the Surf technique (read above for the Pikachu method, or use a Surf HM). Once you have Surf, go to the trail that leads to Rock Tunnel. Keep walking until you get to the grassy part with some water. Now Surf down the stream. You will be taken to the Power Plant building. Go inside. You can find Magnemite, Voltorb, and other electrical Pokemon here. Keep going on the upwards ladders until you get near the exit, there you will find the legendary electrical bird Pokemon known as Zapdos.

How to get two HMs (Hidden Machines) in Fuchsia City
There are two possible HMs you can find in Fuchsia City. First is the Surf HM. In order to get this item, you will have to use your bike to quickly make your way through the Safari Zone in area 3. Go into the Secret Hideaway of Area 3 and the man will give you the Surf HM if you were fast enough. You can also get the Strength HM in Area 3. To get this, find the Gold Teeth item hidden in Area 3. Give the Gold Teeth to the owner of the Safari Zone. He will give you the Strength HM as a reward. Now you can use the Strength HM to teach a Pokemon the Strength Move, and use that to move the boulder next to the Safari Zone owner. Where you can claim another item in the owner’s house.
How to Make Pikachu Instantly Like You
There is a way to make Pikachu like you from the beginning of the game. To do this trick, take the single potion out or your PC that’s in your room when you first begin the game. Now continue playing until you get Pikachu but before you battle Gary’s Eevee. Now before fighting Gary, use the Potion on Pikachu five times. The reason for this is because Pikachu’s happiness increases only after his HP is maxed out. In this case, his HP is at max since you haven’t used him yet. Now fight Gary and WIN the battle. Afterward, when your Pikachu comes out of the Pokeball, he will like you.
How to Get the Diploma
In order to get your Diploma, you must have captured every Pokemon in the game (excluding Mew, who is a bonus Pokemon so he doesn’t count). Once you have completed your Pokedex, visit the Game Designer in the Celadon Mansion. He will give you a Diploma as a reward.
How to “Climb A Tree” (Just for Fun)
This fun but useless little trick works on all versions. To do it, you need a Pokemon that knows the Cut Technique. Now find a tree that you can Cut down. Chop it down, and then stand in the spot where the tree was. Now save your game while standing in that spot and turn it off. When you load your game back up, the tree will be there as if you didn’t cut it down, but you will be standing on top of it! To get “down” from the tree, simply walk away.
How to Avoid Random Encounters With Cut
You can easily get through grassy areas without fighting random Pokemon by using the HM Cut move. Once you have taught Cut to a Pokemon, you can use that Pokemon to cut down trees and slice through grass while on the overworld. The trick is to use Cut to slice the grass in front of you. Do this and you can then walk on the spot without fighting a random Pokemon. Note that if you leave the area and return, the grass will have grown back.
How to Easily Level Up a Pokemon
There is an easy way to quickly level up a Pokemon. To do this, simply make sure that the low-level Pokemon you want leveled is the first Pokemon in your list. This means that he will pop-out first in a battle. Now simply switch that Pokemon out with a more powerful one and finish the battle off with only those two, using the more powerful Pokemon to win. The experience gained will be split between the powerful Pokemon and the one you want to level. This will quickly level them up.
