Bioware has announced Dragon Age Journeys, which is an unlikely spin-off of the massive upcoming RPG Dragon Age: Origins, which releases for PC and Xbox 360 on November 3rd, and for PS3 on November 17th.

Journeys meanwhile, is an all-new 2D, episodic browser-based single-player tactical RPG that spans three chapters and will be playable in any Flash-enabled browser. The game will borrow many of the same elements of its console brother, including character classes, talent trees, sound effects, music, and a user interface.

Dragon Age Journeys will look similar to Dragon Age: OriginsOnly the first chapter was announced so far. Called “The Deep Roads”, it will focus on the dwarven stronghold of Orzammar and surrounding areas “where dwarves face a persistent threat from the Darkspawn hordes.”

It is being developed by EA 2D, a new internal browser-focused development studio whose mission is to “create blockbusters for the browser; some will be original games created by our teams and some will be games within other EA franchises, such as Dragon Age Journeys,” says the company. A release date for Dragon Age Journeys wasn’t given.

In other BioWare news, the company was asked about Jade Empire 2.

Talking to Strategyinformer, Dragon Age lead designer Mike Laidlaw made this statement regarding a possible Jade Empire sequel:

“We will certainly announce it if it’s going to be coming out. At this point, Jade Empire is a staff favorite, and a lot of us love it, so we’d love to revisit it at some point. But right now, we are very focused on Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2.”

BioWare does have an unannounced “next-gen” game still in development, but it’s more likely an all-new IP and not the Jade Empire sequel.

Oh well. I’m sure they will make one eventually. Till then, you’ll just have to replay the original Jade Empire, which is easily available via download on Xbox Live’s “Games on Demand” service for 1200 Microsoft Points ($15).
