Now that the PSP Go is on store shelves, people have been wondering what the differences between that system and the PSP 3000 are (the previous version). So they can make an informed decision on whether to upgrade or purchase the new system over the previous versions.

Let’s start you out with an official video from Sony that shows the new features of the PSP Go and improvements over the PSP-3000. Watch it here:

Here is the basic information and differences on the PSP Go before we get to the direct spec sheet comparison.

* The PSP Go system (PSP-N1000) system costs $250 and was released on October 1st.
* The PSP Go is a complete evolution of the PSP 3000 system with an all-new look, form factor, medium, size and features.
* The system slides open like a cell phone to reveal the system buttons (when closed just the screen is visible). The sliding screen is both practical for the system’s space-saving design and aesthetically appealing.
* The system does not have a USB drive, and accepts downloadable games only.
* There is 16GB of internal flash memory to store downloaded games, videos, music, and photos.
* Memory can be expanded up to 32GB using a Memory Stick Micro (M2) flash card.
* The unit is 43% lighter and 56% smaller than the original PSP-1000 and 16% lighter and 35% smaller than the PSP-3000.
* Built-in BlueTooth. This can be used with BlueTooth headset, PS3′s DualShock 3 controller, and tethering.
* The PS3′s DualShock 3 controller only works with the PSP Go after first/once connecting both the PSP Go and the controller, via USB, to the PS3. After syncing them up the controllers works for all controls on the PSP Go just by turning it on. An added bonus of doing this is that PSone and PSP games will have rumble support, and you can play 2-player PSone games.
* Because the system does not accept games on disc, over 16,000 pieces of entertainment (games, movies, TV shows, etc.) are downloadable via the PlayStation Network.
* Over 150 titles previously on UMD disc are now downloadable from the PlayStation Store.
* 55 PSP Mini titles will be available this year.
* More than 60 PSOne Classics are now available for download.
* Over 2,300 movies and 13,000 TV show episodes are available for download.
* Two colors are available: “Piano Black” and “Ceramic White”.
* Battery life is still about 3-5 hours.

While the PSP Go is the newest system in the PlayStation family and will undoubtedly be Sony’s new favorite, the publisher is insisting that the PSP Go will not replace the PSP 3000, which will still be on sale and they will still be supporting.

This new PSP is the slickest hand held system ever created. Cant wait for the price to drop so I can pick it up. Only downfall about it is it don play UMD’s. But the thing has Bluetooth capabilities and the cool thing bout that is if I dont have a Wifi connection in my presence I can turn the Bluetooth on, on my phone and get online that way. Another thing bout it is I can use my Dualshock 3 controller to play my PSP. I wonder if Bluetooth headset will work on it… should rite?

To answer both your questions I’ve updated the PSP Go features list with these two info bits:

I’m thinking about buying a PSP Go this week, hence I did the research.

The PSP Go looks pretty amazing, but I’m one who has a thing for physical media, so I’m still on the fence about it. But I actually don’t have an mp3 player, so for me the PSP could serve a number of multimedia uses.

Just got a Black PSP GO today, its awesome, buttons are nicer then 3000, screen is nicer even though slightly smaller, system itself is smaller, games look a tad bit better, i can confirm that PS3 controller works great with PSP GO. just plug both into usb and follow instructions. I am gonna go out and get some psp component cables so i can play psp games on my tv with ps3 controller,

P.S. I still take it with me everywhere too just rather play on my big screen tv when at home cant wait to try the component cables, thanks

it looks cool, and the Bluetooth feature working with the playstations controllers is a plus but thats all there is to it. if you check out the specs you’d be mad to buy a GO if you already own a PSP of earlier models as only so much has been changed, also the button layout isn’t appealing to gamers, its appealing only to those who care about saving space, which unless your gonna play it for only 10 minutes a day is a deterrent. downloadable content only is a major minus. many kids buy consoles, but how many kids are gonna know how to use a credit card, or how many parents. the PSN cards help, but, physical game units are the way to go. a game in a box makes for a much heartier Christmas present then a card to download a game online. if you like spending for the sake of spending then by all means buy a GO, its got good technology but if you wanna be real about it, the PSP 3000 is the better option in price and usability. i own neither console, this is non biast perspective.
