Dark Sony PS2 commercials you won’t see on TV

Banned TV commercials, especially videogame-related ones, are always a great find. Many people will remember the unreleased Xbox 360 TV spot which featured people fake-shooting each other using their hands as guns.
While the commercial was banned, it was eventually released or leaked online which allowed millions of people to see, what I think is, one of the best and funniest videogame launch commercials of all time.
Now it’s Sony’s turn.
Albeit, the following ads below are from South Africa. But they were created with a Western audience in mind. They cost around $500,000 bucks to create, which is “the most expensive spec job ever shot in South Africa” according to Superannuation who unearthed these adverts.
For one reason or another though, these expensive TV commercials were dropped and never got to air on TV. Which I think is a shame. Both of them are extremely well made. The first is a tribute to the movie Platoon, while the second is almost scene by scene a recreation of one of my favorite moments from the movie The Last Samurai.
Here is the first banned PS2 commercial called “War”.
In case you’re curious, this commercial is set to a warped remix of Alphaville’s “Forever Young” by English experimental artist V/Vm.
Here is the second banned PS2 commercial called “Duel”.
And just to close things out, here is the banned Xbox 360 commercial.
