First Rage gameplay trailer shown at QuakeCon 2009

RAGE gameplay screenshot Developer id Software and publisher EA have released the first gameplay trailer for RAGE, the newest game from the guys who brought you Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein. In fact it is their first original intellectual property in over a decade.

The game is an open-world first-person shooter game in which racing plays a huge role. Unlike games like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion or Fallout 3, Rage is more of a first-person shooter than an RPG, although it contains elements of both. However Rage is unique by introducing vehicles into the mix and having the game focus around them. Vehicles can be upgraded with money as can your on-foot weapons. The racing is said to be comparable to dedicated racers like Burnout.

In this first gameplay trailer from Quake-Con 2009 for the game, you’ll also get a deeper glimpse into the game’s storyline (which involves a comet impact that crashes into the Earth) and get a first look at the game’s extremely impressive visuals. It will be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Mac and possibly GNU/Linux.

You can read much more about the game at Kotaku, who went hands-on with a demo.
