Luminous Arc 3: Eyes coming to DS
The latest issue of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu included an announcement by Marvelous Entertainment of Luminous Arc 3: Eyes coming to DS.
The third installment in the Luminous Arc series of portable strategy RPGs is in the works for the Nintendo DS. Luminous Arc 3: Eyes is in development at Image Epoch (of Sands of Destruction and 7th Dragon fame) with Yasunori Mitsuda credited as sound producer.
It’s described as a Japan-style strategy RPG, with you viewing the action from an isometric perspective as you command units and try to wipe out the enemy in a series of stages. The main differences are in the game’s story: You’re now a student at the Ulgard Magic Academy, and in between the fights, you’ll be interacting regularly with fellow students and rivals. Depending on what friendships and rivalries you choose to forge, the ending can branch in any number of different directions.
The game’s release date is set for Winter 2009 in Japan. With the first Luminous Arc game also released in America/Canada and Europe/Australia, but with Luminous Arc 2 only out in America/Canada, it’s tough to say when/if the third game will be localized by Atlus outside of Japan or not.
