DC Universe Online features over 100 characters of both the hero and villain molds. The upcoming MMORPG is scheduled for release in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and PC.

Unlike typical MMO’s, DC Universe Online is hoping to fundamentally alter the way MMO’s play by using Hulk: Ultimate Destruction as a source for the kind of gameplay they are aiming for. However all the RPG trappings players are familiar with will remain including leveling and an inventory system.

One might assume from the title that players will actually get to control famous DC characters. This is not the case however, as your player will be fully customized by you. Instead, various characters from throughout the DC Universe will serve as parts of the game’s storyline and missions. You will even fight alongside such famous faces as Superman during the course of the game. Famous locations will also be in the game such as Metropolis, Gotham City and Arkham Asylum.

Hmm, I have no idea. Generally with MMO’s it’s a no, but since this is being targeted at the PLayStation 3 as well as PC (and from day one), maybe they will stick an offline mode in there. But it is being billed as an MMO so I wouldn’t count on it.

Just wondering…from whom did you recieve confirmation that all of these characters will be in DCUO? While many have been shown in the various media that has been released since the game was announced, I see several names that haven’t, or that have only been seen in concept art form (which doesn’t necessarilly guarantee that they’ll be in the final product). Thanks, i’ll try to get some of our contacts at SOE to confirm this as well.

Hey, I really don’t want to sound like a dick… but I think you’re just using the wikipedia list. And I am almost 100% certain the wikipedia list is fake because it lists TYRANNOSAURUS REICH as a character in the game.

A character that appeared in a few panels in one comic who is only known due to a minor internet meme. I mean, if you have other sources, by all means, let me know, but until then, I’m calling your bluff.

We have official confirmation on our forums from an actual Developer of the game that this list is Bogus and Unconfirmed. This is by no means official in any way.

BAD IDEA

Not being able to play as Superman is the worst decision any video game designer can make.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be Superman, NOT fight alongside him.

Sometimes I want to grab and shake these corporations for their lack of common sense. What a big disappointment.

I’m so excited about the game, even with just the few confirmed characters there are.

I partially agree that being superman is more fun than being with him, but its an MMO…4million supermans doesnt exactly work well hehe. And I look forward to creating my own superhero and forge my own path

Ya some of those heroes wont be in game as confirmed by the devs, like Lobo. Static is less likely to appear as well. Isnt Swamp Thing Marvel btw?
