Western-RPG DS owners are about to get some love with Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain thanks to publisher Aspyr Media.
The game is based on a popular British Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book series of the same title although the game has an all-new storyline co-created by series writers Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson, although the game’s story is mostly based on the first book.
The game is a linear adventure however, unlike a lot of recent Western RPGs, which flies in the face of the novel’s style. The story tells of a lone adventurer on his travels through the old Dwarven keep within Firetop Mountain. And like most other Western RPGs the focus will be on exploring fantasy dungeons and collecting loot.
“Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain is our most ambitious Nintendo DS project to date,” said Damir Slogar CEO of Big Blue Bubble Inc. “Driven by the vision of bringing next gen console gaming to the handheld platform, as well as our passion for role playing games, we spent the past few years working on a game that will showcase how this FPSRPG on Nintendo DS can and should look.”
However the game looks quite gorgeous on the tiny DS screens and runs at a solid 60 frames-per-second, which is impressive for the handheld. The game will be released here in the U.S. some time this holiday. Be sure to check out some more Fighting Fantasy pics and beautiful concept artwork.
