Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 name is now official
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is now the official name for “Modern Warfare 2″ (as it was previously called) announced Activision and developer Infinity Ward. The game will be released on November 10th.
The new/old name was first revealed via a Twitter by Infinity Ward’s director of communications and community manager Robert Bowling that read: “[sic] just received the first Modern Warfare 2 boxes straight off the press. ‘S*** just got real.’” with the above photo proving it.
Activision then confirmed the name change with the following statement:
Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 is the direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. We have focused our attention on Modern Warfare in order to most effectively communicate the fact that this is the first true sequel in the Call of Duty series. Infinity Ward, the original creators of the Call of Duty franchise, has said from the beginning Modern Warfare 2 resides in the Call of Duty universe. This is reflected in the title’s package.
After months and months of “to Call of Duty or not to Call of Duty”, how do you feel about the name? Personally I was kind of liking the simple “Modern Warfare 2″, but I’m sure slapping Call of Duty on the box will allow it to sell a lot more copies.
yep, really nice to see the call of duty title back, its absence was bugging me a lot.
That was definitely the weirdest choice I’ve seen a big publisher make in a while. You don’t just throw away your multi-million dollar brand, you know.
I’m glad it’s back too. Because it’s part of the main series, not a spin-off.
