Is Silent Hill 6 in the future of the horror franchise? According to Konami’s Tomm Hulett, producer of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for the Wii, the answer is a definite yes.

Here is a portion of his interview with Joystiq:

J: If this game finds success on the Wii, could the system become the new home base for Silent Hill?

TH: Silent Hill’s an important franchise to Konami, it’s our premier survival horror franchise, so I’m not sure it needs a “home.” I think a lot of fans have gotten used to it being on the PS2 and we are creating a PS2 version of Shattered Memories for them, but it’s been on Microsoft consoles and everyone likes to be scared, so why should we only allow a certain group of people to be scared? I think the Wii allows us to do different things with Silent Hill and the second something stops being scary is when it becomes predictable. I think we need to experiment with Silent Hill, we need to put it on all these different platforms, we need to try new things with the story. Otherwise, it’s just that game where you go through a level once and then it get creepy, and you go through the level again and half the doors are locked. That’s not scary anymore.

Now naturally to ask the question is akin to assuming that Hideo Kojima is going to stop making Metal Gear. But still, it’s always good to know, as a fan of the series, that it will continue. — Read the full interview at Joystiq.

Update April 2010: Konami has announced it has been working on a new Silent Hill title for “next-gen consoles” AKA the PS3 and Xbox 360!

Hey, this is a sequel world we live in!

Give the series back to the original team or let it die.

I must agree with Hadrian. I love Silent Hill. I’m a huge fan, but when it comes to the old-new generation, SH is just not what it used to be. Scary and deep. Homecoming has a great soundtrack and a pretty good story, but something got really wrong. The way they told the story probably is the answer. The team told the story like a common story, not like silent Hill. Even SH:Origins was like this, with a non predictable story. Well, I hope Nightfall (or 6, We don’t know yet) comes soon giving us back what we want… A great game…

    See ya! Nice blog!

I also agree with Hadrian, the new team just do not get the ‘soul’ of Silent Hill. Honestly, they strike me as being tech people that are great at programming, etc but not so good at the philosophical side of things. Pity.

I think that if the original team puts together their heads again then another game would be glorious, if not then another horrid creation would plague gamers around the world. At least make the story a little more original than what homecoming did as far as referencing to Jaccobs Ladder and silent hill movie. More importantly bring back the character relationships that proved to be more important than an over used over the shoulder camera! And acutally good endings that lasts longer than a minute!!

it scared the crap outta me in SH1, these guys dont know what a scary game is, shattered memories is not scary at all

Yeah… Shattered Memories was more like Myst but with occasional faceless monsters chasing you and ice all over when the creatures show up… And huge tits on the cop if you answer the “sexuality” questions right. :D

Also, who says it’s just PS360? What about (c’mon, we all know it’s this year- more info on that later*) Wii 2/HD?

*reasons it’ll be unveiled this year:
    1) Nintendo doesn’t want to be left the only non-HD system with motion when Move and Natal come out (even if both are flops), so why not at least compete by adding more power (not to mention a butt-load of other new tech)?
    2) We haven’t seen any screenshots of the new Zelda yet… Which may mean that they don’t want to give away that it’ll be in HD for the new system. Just a thought… You know, if you see a screen and someone says, “no way that looks way too good for wii” and then everyone knows? That’s what I mean.
    3) they are frankly overdue for HD. Get current gen, Nintendo.
    4) the leak in specs was from a Nintendo France employee. It had way too many details (that made sense) to be a fake. Especially because of the trade-in thing.
    5) Someone high up said that Pikmin 3 would be in HD… I forget who.
    6) Reggie’s answers have been changing… First he categorically denied any Wii 2, then he was changing the subject while not denying it… Also Satoru Iwata has been hinting that “hypothetically” it would have to be much more than HD, while not denying it’s existence.
    7) they have been all talking about how this year’s E3 is gonna be huge.

He’s wrong. That was one of the most scariest things is SH for me.
