The iPhone GameBone Pro controller
The iPhone (and iPod Touch) have quickly emerged as bonafide gaming platforms with company after high profile company releasing mobile games for them, and sales at an all-time high. Yet you are stuck playing the systems with the touch-screen controls built in.

No longer however. An Australian company named 22Moo has created the first iPhone/iPod Touch controller called the “GameBone Pro iPhone controller”. Which, as the name suggests, is shaped like a bone.

The controller most closely resembles a Super NES controller and includes an 8-way D-Pad, four face buttons (A,B,C and D) and two shoulder buttons. It even includes its own battery that can supply extra power to your iPhone!

The controller doesn’t hook up to the system through a cable though or attack to it in any way, so you will need to rest it against something else to play, which could be a potential drawback. The company may release a horizontal and vertical stand for the iPhone though.

The GameBone controller will be released in September for an as-of-yet unspecified price. Check out the 22Moo GameBone Pro iPhone controller web-site to vote on the price you’d like to see it released at.

OK… THIS RASES THE QUESTION… IS THIS A RIP OFF OF THE SNES CONTROLER OR THE AMIGA CD32 CONTROLER?! JQ

They’re going to launch in September and are barely showing an Illustrator rendering today? No way they’ll have it made by then. Not to mention the road blocks they’ll face with Apple even approving the product for their Made for iPod/iPhone program. Hopefully it’ll forge the way for better-looking controllers in the future though!

I wonder if this isn’t inconvenient to hold with the outer sides not being rounded like the SNES controller (yet they copied everything else as JQ point out). Instead the “bone” sides are sticking out into your palms as you hold it, so I don’t think this is meant for play sessions longer than an hour. But like mmm4tt I have my doubts this will even come out, although I really like the idea, you can never have enough options to play. Unfortunately I’ve never played a game for more than a few minutes on the iPod Touch.

I’d rather get excited about http://www.icontrolpad.com/ if it wasn’t for it being non-official.
