Desmond is Abstergo's key to ultimate power. No way Viddic would let his goons SHOOT at him when he's five million times more valuable than all those guards put together.

What I wonder about is why Lucy didn't fight back with firearms. Desmond I get, since he has no training with them whatsoever compared to the Hidden Blade, but she really should have.

Since he's scavenging around ancient ruins in obscure locations Desmond will likely see more puzzles and platforming than actual combat in AC3, so I doubt modern weapons will play into it.

It'll be interesting to see if he'll have to evade modern security systems, however.

I'd just like to add my own 2 cents here on different things:

1) Guns. Some people like the idea, some people don't. And, seeing as I doubt it'll actually go back (unless it's some sort of culmination, where you play as different ones for separate missions,) guns make sense, but it won't go CoD with explosions everywhere and sh*t blowing up. It'll be along the lines of Splinter Cell, just with the idea of hidden blades and possible swords added to the flashbang grenades, night vision, probably some grappling hooks. Does this really sound like a bad idea to you? Giving Desmond a silenced handgun?

2) Female vs. Male protagonist: This is only counting if they go back, but if they do, I'm not picky. Make the character a different kind of character from Altair/Ezio/Desmond, make then likable, develop them a bit, and you're good. Actually, my idea for a character, since we've had born into it Altair, forced into it Ezio, I'd like to see someone who joins of their own free will. Like, maybe the Templars killed this person's parents while the character was very young, and they've been growing up on the streets ever since. Later, then end up a bit like Desmond, just that we'd have to finish their story in 1 game rather then 5.

Also, am I the ONLY one who thinks co-op (if done well) could be awesome?

I Think I have a good idea for the game to become longer..
In Ac3 you could play as Desmond as an assassin, trying to find the temples.
But when he finds the last temple, he finds out that a girl he knew from high school/college
Or whatever, also tries to find the temples.. Then the game ends and in the next 2-3 games you
Could play as her, how she found out the temples existed by going into a women assassins body.
I don't know how to make a big story out about it, but I think it's a good idea..
What about you, do you think it is a good idea or is it just me??

You guys... Desmond entered the Animus to learn how to be an assassin in AC2. That means he learned the techniques that Ezio used. Ezio did not use guns (for the most part), so Desmond can hardly forsake all the skills he learned in the Animus to go around shooting everyone in the face, instead of stabbing them in the face. Desmond will have the hidden blades, albeit a modified version, and this will make the game even more reliant on stealth than before, as his skill set will require him to control the engagement. In other words, Desmond didn't learn to use guns, he learned
to use blades. So everyone calm down about that.
As for the story, I don't care what Ubisoft does, as long as it makes sense in the Assassin story (advances/ends it), and retains the gameplay I've grown to love.

It's not like a modern-day Assassin's Creed title is going to screw everything up. Desmond is an assassin, so he won't be using many guns or devices that make a lot of noise. The most he'll use is a silenced handgun.

He will most likely be going back into the Animus as well, to find the locations of the temples. Since they're all over the world, you'll probably be stepping into the shoes of more than one Assassin, as well as different time periods (feudal Japan, colonial America, ancient Egypt, medieval Western Europe, etc.)

So it's not like you'll be missing the chance to wield swords and axes, you just won't be doing that in 2012. You'll still be using the hidden blade and throwing knives; that's for sure. Expect to see things like Night Vision, stun/flash grenades, grappling hooks, and the like in Assassins Creed 3.
