EGM magazine getting a reboot in late 2009

EGM will rise from the dead during the second half of 2009 according to former head-honcho James Mielke.
The currently dead-and-buried former heavyweight gaming magazine was officially cancelled after it’s former publisher the 1UP Network was bought by UGO who did not pick up the print magazine, officially leaving it for dead.
Now the original creator of the magazine, EGM founder Steve Harris, is looking to revive EGM in either online, or possibly even print, form. He has purchased all the needed assets from Ziff Davis including trademarks to the name and publishing rights. He has even has met with several former staffers such as the aforementioned Milkman and allegedly Dan Hsu.
“The re-launch of Electronic Gaming Monthly represents a welcome opportunity to continue delivering quality content to gaming enthusiasts,” said Harris in a press release. “I feel honored to once again be associated with this respected magazine. The talented writers and designers who built upon EGM’s original vision have left behind a publication that is uniquely positioned to be successful.”
“We have exciting plans for the evolution of what will once again be a leading independent voice for the gaming community,” Harris continued. “The twenty year success of the EGM brand has always been built upon a commitment to its readers who I believe will enthusiastically embrace the changes we are planning to introduce.”
As a long time reader of EGM I personally hope that Steve Harris maintains lead writing duties for the mag. It is my personal opinion that Shoe killed it, as it was after he took over that my interest started to wain and it the mag went downhill. I still have my collection of over 200 issues but the mag was at it’s best during early 1998 and the height of the N64/PS1 era.
