Warner Bros offers $33 million to buy out bankrupt Midway

It’s alive! IT’S ALIVE!

Warner Bros has offered to buy the bankrupted publisher Midway for a cool $33 million dollars. Better yet, this is enough money to not only buy the company and it’s name, but also assets like the Mortal Kombat franchise and Midway studios like Chicago and Seattle.

However the agreement does not include Midway’s San Diego studio and TNA Impact, nor does it include the Wheelman developers in Newcastle.

Warner Bros. has been rumored to be Midway’s prime suitor since April, when “reliable trade sources” suggested that the media conglomerate was about to make an offer. Warner Bros. figures that it is a good deal as they continue to build their portfolio, having earlier attempted to purchase Eidos Interactive.

At the moment, Warner Bros. and Midway are waiting on the bankruptcy court to approve the deal.

Good news for Midway. Possibly bad news if you were hoping to see Mortal Kombat handed off to another, more capable developer. Either way I’m glad to see that the company is not left to go under. Kudos to Warner Bros. and hopefully midway’s pedigree will be upped a bit as they realize that bad games nearly killed them.
