Fuel makes Guinness Book of World Records for largest game world

The upcoming racing game Fuel has been inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records for “Largest Playable Area in a Console Game” and although the award says “console” it is apparently the largest game environment ever.
Fuel is an open-world racing game that is set in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by Global Warming which means players will have to contend with all manner of natural disasters (from tornadoes to sandstorms to earthquakes). And in addition to having over 70 different vehicles to choose from in 6 categories (Bikes, ATVs, Muscle cars, SUVs, Buggies and Trucks and even hovercraft), players will also have a massive freely open game world that is over 5,000 square miles (14,000 km²) in size.
According to Guinness the game environment is larger than Hong Kong, Singapore, St Lucia and the Isle of Man put together.
The actual entry in the next Guiness Book of World Records for Fuel will read:
“Largest playable area in a console game: The largest playable environment in a console game is 5,560 square miles (14,400 km²), and is featured in FUEL (Codemasters, 2009). The area features rivers, deserts, forests and mountains and was demonstrated at the offices of Guinness World Records, London, UK, on 20 May 2009.”
Fuel is being developed for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC by Asobo Studios and will be published by Codemasters. It has a release date of June 2nd, 2009.
Here is an Event Trailer for Fuel showing off the various types of races in the game.
