The ESRB has rated PS1 classics Resident Evil 1 and Metal Gear Solid 1 for PSN, which means that the two above titles should be released on the PlayStation Network soon. As the ESRB often reveals games ahead of their official announcement.
There was also reports recently that Capcom would release up to 40 PS1 titles on the PlayStation Network, so this news is not the least big surprising. Although it is somewhat surprising to see the original Metal Gear Solid rated, as the title has yet to be released in any previous territory, despite it being one of the most wanted titles. Resident Evil 1 meanwhile has been available to Japanese owners since 2006.
Metal Gear Solid was originally released for the PSOne way back in 1998 while Resident Evil 1 goes even further back to 1996.
Both titles should be released on the PlayStation Network for download via the PSOne Classics section of the PlayStation Store soon if the ESRB rated games do indeed indicate their imminent release (which isn’t always the case). Games purchased and downloaded can then be played on either the PS3 or the PSP.
Also rated by the ESRB were Take-Two Interactive’s Spec: Ops: Covert Assault and Spec Ops: Ranger Elite, and Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six.
