Lots of EA news today as the company released its fourth quarter and fiscal year 2009 financial results.

But even bigger than that is speculation making the rounds that Apple is looking to buy EA. The rumor apparently started on CNBC’s “Fast Money” where a panelist suggested that Apple may be looking into a takeover bid of Electronic Arts. However a source wasn’t mentioned, just that he had heard “chatter” about it on Wall Street.

Shifting gears to actual financial news, EA reported a loss of $1.08 billion dollars for the financial year ending March 2008. However revenue for the same period was up 15% from last year to $4.2 billion.

“EA’s strong cost actions in Q4 FY09 together with our investments in our digital service businesses will set us up for a stronger FY10,” said CEO John Riccitiello. “EA is well positioned with the right strategies in a growing industry.”

Additionally EA announced that more than 31 games released in the year sold over 1 million units, which is up from 27 the previous year. That includes Spore which has sold over 2 million copies and has seen over 100 million creatures created.

To top it all off, these three games: FIFA 09, Madden NFL 09 and Need for Speed: Undercover all sold over 5 million copies.
