Namco has announced a Soul Calibur game for PSP entitled Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny which is based on Soul Calibur 4. This will mark the first time the series has made the transition to Sony’s portable console.
Here is a breakdown of what you can expect to see in Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny:
* Built from the ground up specifically for PSP.
* Based on many of the features of Soul Calibur 4 but with enhancements and new characters.
* The core cast of Soul Calibur will return in this entry minus the Star Wars guest characters from the console entries of Soul Calibur 4.
* One new character is named Dampierre. Details weren’t revealed, just his artwork (see below).
* The game will include over 20 characters for sure, possibly around 30, although the final roster has not been determined.
* Returning characters include Taki, Mitsurugi, Tira, Astaroth, Ivy, Cassandra, Voldo, Siegfried, and Hilde.
* Comparable to console Soul Calibur 4 graphically but on a smaller screen.
* The epic Soul Calibur music you know and love returns in this portable entry.
* Built specifically for beginners and novice players so it’s easier to get into.
* Modes include Arcade, Versus and Survival as well as Character Creation. There will be new parts to use in the Creation mode while the other modes have “evolved”.
* Over 80 exercise missions to help newcomers learn how to fight and get into the series.
* Stages will have new times of day thanks to new lighting effects.
* Critical Finishes, Soul Crush’s and Armor Destruction have returned with enhancements.
* The music has been re-arranged.
* Online play has not been confirmed but local ad hoc play is certain.
* Set for release this summer.
