Bioshock movie progress delayed over budget issues. Film still on track

Bioshock: The Movie put on hold over budget issues but still on track

Production on the Bioshock movie being directed by Gore Verbinski has been put on hold temporarily while Universal Pictures and Verbinski try to cut the high-cost budget of the film, which was set at $160 million.

The film is currently in pre-production and was set to start shooting in Los Angeles but that changed when Universal deemed the costs to be too high. They even let some of the production staff go while they figure out their next moves, which may include shooting the film in London instead so that they can take advantage of a tax credit that they won’t get if shooting in the U.S. But according to Verbinski “We are evaluating whether this is something we want to do. In the meantime, the film is in a holding pattern.”

Bioshock on PS3And according to Variety the Bioshock movie is far from cancelled. To the contrary, everyone involved in the film based on the Bioshock game vows that the movie WILL be made and that it will not go the way of Peter Jackson’s Halo movie project. To that end, Verbinski himself even decided to back out from directing a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie in order to create Bioshock, which he will produce under his “Blind Wink” banner.
