Grandia Online was originally announced way back in 2004 and was supposed to begin beta testing in 2006. But a series of company issues forced the game to be delayed as development shifted from Game Arts to GungHO (who bought them out). It then shifted again when GungHo sold all the copyright and domestic and international distribution rights to Online Gaming Revolution (OGR). And yet, nothing more was ever seen of the game. Thus many fans feared that the Japanese PC MMORPG had been cancelled.

Now however the game has resurfaced and it turns out that it is still on track for release.

On May 20, 2009 the game will be shown to a select amount of people who applied to attend a Grandia Online conference in Akihabara in Japan. Where the game will be shown off, people will be able to play it, and they’ll also be able to chat it up with series composer Noriyuki Iwadare and voice actors Kikuko Inoue and Mariya Ise.

In addition to the above regarding Grandia Online, the original Grandia was also released on the PlayStation Network store for 600 yen in celebration of the conference.

Grandia Online is set within the world presented in the Grandia series of RPGs, in the “Age of Genesis”, before the original Grandia story takes place.
