What are the Top 25 Hardest Games Of All Time?

Gaming difficulty is an interesting beast as it has really evolved over the years. Many gamers still hold to the fact that games of yesteryear were much harder than games on today’s consoles. But is that really true?

Obviously it all depends on who you ask. GameDaily has come up with their own list of the hardest games and series of all time. Though they mostly concentrate on franchises instead of one entry in a series. So I took a few liberties to add “series” like when they went with the original Battletoads (um, excuse me, but they’re ALL hard!).

Personally, I would’ve added a few games like the original Metroid, Mortal Kombat 3, Siren and Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for NES (Thanks logikil!) and Kid Icarus . . . I also think I’d exclude the arcade classics and maybe shooters, cause heck, a lot of shooters are hard. Then again, so are a lot of fighters. But I digress.

So what is your own personal list of the hardest games of all time?

What about TMNT for the NES? Not the arcade game, the one that released before that. Pretty much anything that has been release in the last two maybe even three generations of games shouldn’t really be on here.

I know, I totally would not have put games like Tetris on this list. Or games like Defender. Those classic arcade games should be excluded IMO. That’s like putting Pong on the list!

Logikil, I TOTALLY agree about TMNT on NES! Man I can’t believe I didn’t think of that. That is one game that DEFINITELY deserves to be high up. It’s nearly impossible.

How can Ninja Gaiden be number 1 when I finished the series on Master Mother Farking Ninja? Yet I couldn’t get pass level 1 for Ghost n Ghouls?

Uhm … I agree a lot of games don’t belong on this list logikil, but the Ninja Gaiden series absolutely does.

But … tetris … the game everbody can play … hard? I don’t think so. Portal … hard … yes … when you don’t have a brain! CoD 4!!! That deseves a ZOMG! Not a hard game at all, that’s why everyone likes to play it … its controls are easy to learn and werk well … thus making the game fairly easy … even on veteran.

Playing Killzone 2 on Elite … now that’s hard! … I have stopped counting the times I witnessed my character’s demise. I doubt I’ll even encounter Radec himself … so I guess i’ll blow off some steam by playing some Tetris … nice and easy…

hell the original metal gear and a bunch of the classic NES games were REALLY hard
