New Halo books are coming in the form of an all-new “The Forerunner Trilogy” that will delve into the earliest days of the Halo universe, 100,000 years into the past. The trilogy is being written by science fiction author Greg Bear and releases in 2010 from Tor Books.

Synopsis
A mysterious ancient race worshiped by the Covenant as gods, the Forerunners wiped themselves off the face of the universe to help stem the tide of the Flood. The Forerunner Trilogy will explore this ancient race and their ties to humanity as revealed in Halo 3.

The books were announced by Bungie’s Frank O’Conner at the Emerald City Comic Con. As for Greg Bear, he has written books covering themes of galactic conflict in the “Forge of God” books, artificial universes in “The Way” series, consciousness and cultural practices in his book “Queen of Angels”, and accelerated evolution in his books “Blood Music” (credited as the first account of nanotechnology in science fiction), “Darwin’s Radio”, and “Darwin’s Children”. He is also a science fiction writer who relies on hard scientific facts as much as he can, known for providing technical accuracy and detail in his stories. So it’ll be interesting to see his spin on the Halo universe.
