Devil May Cry series reaches 10 million shipped

The Devil May Cry franchise has reached a major milestone of 10 million units shipped across the entire franchise.

The series debuted on the PlayStation 2 in 2001 with the original Devil May Cry which tipped the action genre on it’s head with the birth of “stylish action” where the moves were crazy and fast-paced. Interestingly enough, the game was actually originally created as Resident Evil 4, but was changed to it’s own series after it strayed too far from what Capcom thought Resident Evil should be.

The most successful game in the series is the most recent, Devil May Cry 4 released in February of 2008 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and later PC. Devil May Cry 4 has sold over 2.2 million copies.

The most successful Capcom series however remains Resident Evil with over 34.5 million copies old as of May 2008 (I’m sure that number is even higher with the success of Resident Evil 5), followed by Street Fighter at 28 million copies sold and Mega Man at 25 million copies sold.
