Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time new story and gameplay details

Insomniac Games, developers of the newly announced Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time, have revealed more details on the new game via a live-chat that they participated in at the Official PlayStation Blog.

Here are the details in easy to read bullet points:

* Development on A Crack in Time started with pre-production directly after Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction shipped. But the game didn’t move into full production until after the release of Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty. This is due to the storyline in A Crack in Time being a direct follow up to Quest for Booty.

* Storywise, this game will reveal more about the origins of Ratchet & Clank and why Clank was captured by the Zoni. As well as why Nefarious is involved.

* Time will play a huge role in everything from the story to the gameplay. They stated that time is something they haven’t really explored before but totally makes sense for a sci-fi title. No mention of time-based weapons . . .

* The team talked about the “Ratchet & Clank Future” (RCF) line as a sot of spin-off or side-story in the Ratchet & Clank series, separate from the main games. To elaborate:

“We started mapping out the big vision of the Future series during RCF pre-production,” said Allgeier.

“We wanted to set the RCF [Ratchet & Clank Future] story arc apart from the other Ratchet games, and also signify the jump to the next-gen consoles,” elaborated Insomniac community manager James Stevenson. “With the PSP/PS2 games coming out (Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank), it made sense to show the Future games having their own arc.”
