Left 4 Dead sells 2.5 million units at retail

Left 4 Dead on PCValve has done it again. Left 4 Dead is a monster hit that has sold over 2.5 million copies at retail when you combine sales numbers for both the PC and Xbox 360 versions.

However that number is likely twice as high, because sales numbers for Left 4 Dead don’t include Steam sales. Valve hasn’t released specific numbers but they did state that during their recent 50% off weekend sales of Left 4 Dead far exceeded the game’s launch sales.

This must come as a huge relief for Valve, as the game’s success was anything but guaranteed before its launch, being a multiplayer-focused horror title that was only released on two platforms. Thankfully though, the game seems to be a gigantic hit the size of an endless zombie horde. Which it definitely deserves, because the game is awesome.

And I’m sure Left 4 Dead 2 is now in Valve’s future.
