Valve has stated that their new “Custom Executable Generation” makes standard DRM a thing of the past and “obsolete”. This follows on the heels of Microsoft announcing tougher anti-piracy themselves for Games for Windows titles.

According to Valve, “Custom Executable Generation compliments the already existing anti-piracy solution offered in Steamworks. A customer friendly approach to anti-piracy, CEG makes unique copies of games for each user allowing them to access the application on multiple machines without install limits and without having to install root kits.”

Valve co-founder Gabe Newell added that Valve will continue looking for “new ways to make PC games easier to create and better for customers to experience.”
