Capcom has announced that they have SHIPPED 4 million Resident Evil 5 units to retailers, making this the single biggest launch in Resident Evil history, even if the actual sales numbers have yet to be announced. The game shipped for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and included premium pre-order bundles in addition to the regular version. And if you need tips on the game, then be sure to check out our Resident Evil 5 cheats page.
Capcom is wholly expecting this game to outpace sales of Resident Evil 4, but we’ll just have to wait and see. Personally I wouldn’t be surprised at all if it does. If it doesn’t, THAT will be surprising.
Resident Evil is one of the most popular gaming franchises of all time with combined sales of over 40 million copies in the series to date. The first Resident Evil game was released for the PlayStation 1 in 1996.
Capcom is also increasingly focused on growing the Resident Evil brand (and it’s other brands) outside of the video game industry. The Resident Evil film trilogy from Paul W.S. Anderson for example has achieved combined sales of over $300 million dollars while the recent Resident Evil CG film, Resident Evil: Degeneration, has shipped over 1.5 million copies.
A fourth live action Resident Evil film from Paul Anderson is also in the works.
