Do you know what day it is today? No not Tuesday silly. It’s “Sony Online Entertainment Day”! Well at least it is if you live in San Diego, California.

In another very strange Twilight Zone-esque event, it seems that the government, this time it’s the city of San Diego, is celebrating the video game industry. You may recall that just recently the Washington State Senate honored Penny Arcade.

Today the City of San Diego will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the original EverQuest MMO as well as the “continued support and dedication SOE shows to the city and community” by dedicating today as “Sony Online Entertainment Day”!

If you want to watch the dedication yourself you better make it snappy, as it takes place two hours from now at 10am. You are advised to arrive early (like now) if you want to secure a nice parking spot and get through security in time. The proclamation will be held at room 202C on the 12th floor of San Diego’s Council Chambers and John Smedley will be on hand to accept the award on behalf of Sony Online Entertainment from San Diego City Council member Carl DeMaio.

Congrats to Sony Online Entertainment. 10 years of a Massively Multiplayer Online RPG is an eternity in the video game industry and no easy feat.
