Guitar Hero: Van Halen and Band Hero rumored to be coming in 2009

Guitar Hero: Van Halen, coming soon!

Rumor has it that Activision are going to significantly push and expand the Guitar Hero brand with a number of upcoming and new titles for 2009.

In addition to Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits for the DS, Activision will be releasing these additional titles:

* Guitar Hero: Van Halen (set for release this August 2009)
* Guitar Hero 5 (sequel to Guitar Hero World Tour, working title, set for September 2009)
* DJ Hero (set for October 2009, an all-new extension to the “Hero” brand)
* Band Hero (Set for November 2009)

All the above games are said to be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 and Wii THIS year. If true, then man is that A LOT of Guitar Hero!

And while this is all just rumor, several of the games have been revealed in one form or another. DJ Hero was mentioned by Activision Blizzard boss Bobby Kotick himself as was Guitar Hero: Van Halen in an investor conference in early 2008. While “Band Hero” was trademark a while back along with “Drum Hero”, so that too has been previously “revealed” in some form.

Additionally Joystiq has reported on a source of their own that revealed several SPECIFICS regarding Guitar Hero: Van Halen. These include:

* It will be arrive after the release of Guitar Hero: Metallica
* It will include several songs from the California rock group’s storied catalog
* Songs such as “Jump”, “Panama” and “Hot for Teacher” will be featured on the game’s tracklist
* In addition to songs from Van Halen themselves, it would also feature songs from other bands such as: Judas Priest’s “Pain Killer,” Tenacious D’s “Master Exploder” and Weezer’s “Dope Nose.”

Naturally, Activision’s response to all of this has been, “The RedOctane/Guitar Hero team is currently focused on the upcoming release of Guitar Hero Metallica, as well as the recently announced titles Guitar Hero Greatest Hits and Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits, and does not comment on speculation or rumor.”
