The Independent Games Festival (IGF) has launched an Independent Games Festival Audience Award web-site that allows you to play and vote for your favorite entry in the Audience Award category.
The winning game and it’s development team will be announced at the Independent Games Festival Awards held alongside the Game Developers Choice Awards on Wednesday March 25th, 2009. The winners will be awarded $2,500 and second tier prices totaling $50,000 will also be handed out as part of the IGF Main and Student Competitions.
You’ll also be able to play all the IGF Award Finalists at the IGF Pavilion on the GDC Expo show floor from March 25th-27th.
The IGF had a record 226 entries this year which represents the significant growth of the independent games movement with innovative games of excellent quality across all platforms.
In addition to being able to play the games on the web-site above, Independent Games that have demos or full versions available for PC, Xbox Live Arcade, XNA Community Games or PSN (apparently known are WiiWare titles) include: Retro/Grade, Dyson, Brainpipe, The Maw, IncrediBots, Osmos, Musaic Box, Cortex Command, CarneyVale Showtime, Coil, The Graveyard, PixelJunk Eden, Mightier, You Have To Burn The Rope, and Between.
IGF Chairman Simon Carless had this to say about the Audience Awards. “The Audience Award is always one of my favorite categories, as such a big part of the independent movement is about giving the public a voice. With the quality of the finalist games that have been nominated this year, we hope to have a record amount of votes on the website.”
