Guild Wars 2 has been revealed by NCsoft, albeit buried in an investor finance briefing document covering the company’s previous quarter.

But news wasn’t necessarily all good as they also revealed the release date for Guild Wars 2 as 2010 to 2011. So it looks like fans of the popular free ArenaNet MMO will have to wait quite a while before they can get their sequel fix.

If the release date is accurate then that also means that players will probably not get to try out the beta this year and will instead have to wait until 2010. Bummer.

this is a joke of this tread date, 2011? wtf , thats insane to even keep the name guildwars “2″, this was a great MMORPG game for the last 4 years, 3 campaign & 1 expansion, thet should have made more expasnions while we waited on gw “2″ to what,..2 more years?? cmon. that is crazy
make an expansion for Nightfall & Factions campaign, IDK what name, Rebuild of Elona~ , Secrets of the Jade Sea~ it does not even have to be so massive as EOTN which some would say was more of a prematurly offered full campaign that became more of an “expansion” to Prophecies original, the game was a legend of its time, with out the rip off monthy fees & was addicitve, this is a shame way to let it pass like this for such lenght of wait time, it will not even sequal in are hearts for the new world if the gods take that long ( such as atleast somthing in the mean time) to offer us. besides 250 years of ingame rpg with such a gap of events along with 2 full years of real ife wait time is almost crazy.

Well, if you didnt keep updated,
The Guild Wars team was LAID off and had to
    start over.
This lasted for the time that you’ve thought is
    “So” long.
Now that they are back in the project,
its really only been about half a year-1 year now
    since they lay off.
And because of the graphic designing processes,
putting the game through internet, etc,
    I DOES take awhile.
The Offical release is to be in the first half of 2010.

    Information on the game:
Work on Guild Wars 2 began in 2007.[12] It was announced March 27, 2007[13] which was very early in its development cycle, to coincide with the announcement of the final Guild Wars expansion. ArenaNet wanted to explain to fans of the original Guild Wars games their plan to stop development of episodic content and begin work on a new game.[14] ArenaNet were constrained by the decisions and complexity they had made with the first game and so, to do what they wanted with the game, they needed to start over.[3][10][14]

The development team abandoned the early open alpha and beta testing which they had used for the Guild Wars game. ArenaNet considered that player expectations for open beta tests of MMORPG had changed, the beta was no longer used to test the game but to trial a nearly finished game prior to purchase. Beta tests announced for 2008[15] were cancelled to ensure Guild Wars 2 had maximum impact and appeal to these players.[5]

In August 2009, two years after the game was first announced, ArenaNet decided the game had reached a state where they were happy to show it to the public.[16] A trailer which mixed animated concept art and in-game footage was released at Gamescom, followed by interviews expanding on the lore of the game world and information about the player races.

As of 2009[update], the game is in alpha production. Game relese
is to be through out the first half of 2010.
