It has been confirmed that the original 1988 arcade version of Splatterhouse will appear in the upcoming Namco Splatterhouse reboot which will see the franchise appear in 3D for the first time.
This was confirmed at Comic-Con where co-producer Mark Brown responded to a question regarding if the original would appear in the new game with “Everybody wants that. In one form, we’re gonna deliver on it.” Brown went on to call the original Splatterhouse “the crown jewel of the [Namco] back catalog.”
However it has not been revealed how exactly the arcade version will appear in the game. It may be included as an unlockable (preferably) or it could appear as a special feature of a “premium” bundle of the game. Or probably even as a pre-order bonus. We’ll just have to wait and see on that.
If you’ve never heard of Splatterhouse and wanna see what the whole franchise was about, then remember that you can download Splatterhouse on Virtual Console (the TurboGrafx-16 version) as well as the sequel, Splatterhouse 2.
