The official Koei UK website did a video interview with the creator of Dynasty Warriors 6, producer Takashi Morinaka from Koei’s internal development team Omega Force. The next game in the series, the Dynasty Warriors 7 hint, is quoted below. But another sequel won’t come as a surprise to long-time fans of the Hack-and-Slash series.

Question: Are you satisfied with how Dynasty Warriors 6 turned out?
Answer: “I believe that we as developers have only begun to scratch the surface of what can be done with this new generation of consoles. Dynasty Warriors 6 has advanced in many areas and is the best we can do at this time. Still, fans [of the main Dynasty Warriors series] can look forward to even better games in the future.”

Here’s the interview with him answering questions about Dynasty Warriors 6 and at the end hinting at Dynasty Warriors 7.

What would you like to see in Dynasty Warriors 7?

Update September 16, 2010: Dynasty Warriors 7 was officially announced at the Tokyo Game Show 2010 today.

I think DW 6 was an awsome game. Definitely an improvement on past games. The new fighting system was simply excellent and the graphics were also top notch! However although things were changed that needed to be, things that should not have been were. The majority of characters were completely revamped, and while its good to freshen thigs up once and a while you should never take the 1 thing that makes a DW character; his weapon. Ma Chao for example, he goes on throughout the game about his ‘Spear Of Justice’ yet he wields a boring huge chunk of metal. What the hell? Also I understand it is difficult to alter the story line completely because the battles are based on historic events. But from my own knowledge that there were many more battles than you see in DW in the three kingdoms period of China. a couple of new battles would make it so much better!

Personally I think in some ways DW 6 was an improvement on earlier games, however in some ways it made it a whole lot worse. I like how the armies are a lot bigger now, this was a much needed change to make the game more realistic. The graphics are now also a lot better and I believe that a few of the new designs on the maps were good, the idea of climbing and sliding down cliff sides as well as swimming made the game a lot more interesting and I enjoyed not having to run all the way round to get to where I wanted to go. Not all the new maps were great though so perhaps another change in the maps would be a good idea.
    2) I completely back up what The Great Gan Ning said. I have been a player of the game since DW 2, I like to think of myself as a very experienced player who knows what the fans want, obviously I am a massive fan of the series myself, but the change in some classic weapons was utterly ridiculous, some of the best characters in the game such as Sun Ce and Xiahou Dun got given completely crap weapons that really put me off from playing as them. Give Xiahou Dun back his Kirin Fang, give Sun Ce back his Tonfa’s. Give Zhou Yu back his Elder Sword. Personally I think the knives weapon for Gan Ning wasn’t bad but perhaps give them to someone else. And for godsake give Ma Chao back his spear, he isn’t Ma Chao unless he has a spear and goes around talking about “his spear of justice”. Also Ma Chao was meant to be a great horse rider, in previous games this has been reflected with a great mounted attack which is just completely rubbish in DW 6.

    3) Bring back the great characters you got rid of in DW 6. What is Nanman without Zhu Rong? How can you only have one Qiao sister? Jiang Wei and Pang De, two more great characters missing from DW 6 line up. Bring them back and give each character their Musou story back. Only having a few characters wasn’t really that good at all.

    4) The new look to some characters were good, I liked them, for example Lu Meng was really good and I found Cao Ren’s look funny, he just reminded me of “Juggernaut” of the X-Men Movie. Talking of which, whats up with “Tiger Tanks”? They’re weak and have a lame name. Bring them back to being Juggernaut’s and actually being helpful. But anyway back on to the point, there are some rubbish new looks, whats the deal with making Liu Bei look like some ordinary private from the older games? Hes a ruler, give him back his distinctive look. Also some of the characters have some really bad hair days going on so I think quite a few characters need a new look for DW 7.

    5) The new horse and weapon systems, not good. Bring it back to the old ways of having the four main horses, Hex Mark, Storm, Shadow and Red Hare and take it back to having to get the harnesses as items or having to develop the harnesses like in DW5 Empires. This was a much better system of gettingthe horses and hey, you could actually get Red Hare then! The weapons, I just dont like the new system you could end up with any old pile of crap, once again going back to one of the older systems would be better, levelling it up after battles or in a forge. But add something new, you guys are the designers I’m sure you can come up with something where you blend a good system with something new so players dont complain about having nothing new in the game.

I hope Koei read forums such as this since I think there have been some really good suggestions made and time and time again the same suggestions have come up, this is what fans want to see so I hope Koei view forums such as this and take on board our views.

I like how you can be surrounded by the soldiers and fight one-on-one(one-on-three, too!), but the circle you were left to fight in was small and too easy to knock someone out of the circle, which ended the death match, and the thrill =[

  • NotoriousAndrew

also, there should be an item that attracts enemies to the person who wears that item, that way I don’t have to chase after them and can have more fun destroying tons of officers :]

    bring back jiang wei

I think what would be easy to do is for an extra costume you unlock, take the ones from Kessen 2 game. Those were always so neat to me and it wouldn’t be to hard to transfer for some. And if you add a character add Xiahou Ba, he had a great role in the Kessen 2 game so that also wouldn’t be to troubling to do as well. But I agree with the person above me with the essay long of reasons, you do need to give characters back there weapons of slaughter. I never played with Xiahou Dun in this game cause his weapon sucked to bad. Thats just an idea if you did put Xiahou Ba that would be so awesome. Or having the duel clips they had in Kessen 2 to lower the moral, it doesn’t have to be were they have to duel like in Dynasty Warriors 4 or 5 but maybe some kind of clip and some systematic button mashing at certain times during the duel like how Resident Evil 4 was. Hopefully you will take some of these ideas and I’m not left with renting another run around button mashing game.

I think they need to make an online multiplay and take some tips or team up with “Kingdom under fire” people. I own every Dynasty Warriors except DW5 yes i have DW1 it’s nothing like 2 it’s like “Tekken” or “Soul Calibar” i guess you can say :O and if you beat the game with “Xihou Dun” how ever you spell it. You find out what happens to his eye and why he wears and eye patch. Story goes he was in battle got shot in the eye with an Arrow so he pluck out his eye ball and ate it. I like Dynasty warriors 6 fighting but some things needed to be brought back. 2 play Musou shouldn’t be combined into 1. That’s BS. If i build up my gauge i don’t want to wait for my buddy and die because he don’t have his or if i have mine it gets used up because he used his. That’s BS. Kingdom Under Fire 2 that’s coming out for 360 in 2010 looks amazing and i want Koei to take DW there. I thought StrikeForce was getting there but i played the demo and it felt retarded and felt like a psp game. In “Kingdom Under Fire 2″ you can switch between characters during battle and make strategic desisions that’s awesome. Image Command the wu army not just 1 person and if you die game over. If the army dies Game over. :P

“Kingdom Under Fire II is an upcoming real-time strategy video game developed by Blueside”

Koei please team up with them and make Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors the best games every. I’ll still be a fan even if you don’t but common that would make the game so much better. :P

If you ask me I think they need to bring back old characters and add alot more. The games is too short thts why alot of people dont buy it. They need to bring back all the ones they took out and add like three new characters to the game tht have never been in it. Give each country three new characters, even the small countries, like give shu: Ma Dai, Zhang Bao, and Guan Suo. And for Wu: Cheng Pu, Han Dang, And Taishi Xiang. And for Wei: Cao Hong, Xiahou Ba, and Dian Man. And for the Nanman: Meng You, King Duosi, and Dalai Dongzhu: and for Lu Bu’s forces: Gao Shun, Hou Cheng, and Wei Xu. And for Dong Zhuo’s forces: Li Jue, Hua Xiong, and Jia Xu. And for Yuan Shao forces: Yan Liang, Wen Chou, and Yuan Shang. And for Zhang Jiao’s forces: Zhang Bao, Zhang Liang, And Zhang Mancheng. And Add Liu Yan in here. I mean tht would make the game a great deal longer. Add for him: Liu Zhang, Yan Yan, and Zhang Ren.

I remember when Dynasty Warriors 6 was coming out. I was really excited and just wanted to get my hands on it asap because of all the new character designs and weapons. When I finally played it on my xbox 360, it must have been the worst day that year for me. Dynasty Warriors 6 has to be the worst title in their whole franchise. Less characters, less story, less game play, it was just pointless I barely got through half the game because of my disappointment. I absolutely hated the fact almost half of the characters had borrowed move sets from those that had a story mode. They looked like someone else but did the same thing so other guy does over and over again. The new renbu system is a step backwards from the previous fighting system. I much rather enjoy doing a charge attack in the middle of combo to do a nice little finisher like before. Not having only two combos to do, just keep pressing X or Y over and over it gets borrowing there is no choice. I do like that charge attacks can be a combo but bring the ability for me to press X, X, X, Y and have it be a unique combo like in the previous games! Bring back all of the axed characters and give us some new ones too. They really need to stop working on all these little side series *cough*strikeforce*cough* and work on the main series till they get everything back on track again. I guess it doesn’t matter cause Koei never listens anyway, I guess they peaked at DW5 :(

  • MJ

I agree about the characters. They took so many out! One of the best things about the series was the amount of characters in musou!
I like a few of the character’s looks however Gan Ning can’t be blond (D: I dont know why I don’t like him blond I just…don’t). Zhou Tai needs his sword back! I loved how he ran with it in DW5 and the noise it made when he hacked and slashed people.
I do love that you can call your horse to you, climb ladders, and swim though. Not to mention the graphics are amazing.
But I still would like the musou characters back! And maybe some new characters added as well? :3
