Development just got a little TOO Friday the 13th for Namco Bandai’s upcoming Splatterhouse action horror game.
Namco has confirmed reports that they have “parted ways” with Splatterhouse developer BottleRocket and have replaced them with the team who worked on Afro Samurai. As such, the game has not been scrapped or even put on hold, as development will continue. However one can only imagine how much that might delay the game now that a new group of people has taken the reigns. Splatterhouse is still scheduled for release later this year on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
To quote the developer:
“We have decided to part ways with BottleRocket Entertainment but we are committed to bringing Splatterhouse to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 later this year,” a Namco Bandai spokesperson told gaming blog Kotaku. “At this time, we are not ready to discuss specific development details about the game and wish BottleRocket the best of luck in their future endeavors.”
Reports had indicated that the game was nearly finished and was to wrap-up in March just a month away, so it’s puzzling that Namco would fire the team when the game was so far along. Maybe it was really just that horrible?
The game itself is a fresh take on Namco’s TurboGrafx-16 action horror beat-’em-up called Splatterhouse. It features an original storyline by comic-book writer Gordon Rennie (Judge Dredd, Necronauts), where a college student who is searching for his kidnapped girlfriend discovers a mask that fills him with an insatiable rage and thirst for murder.
