Red Dead sequel Redemption announced for Xbox 360 and PS3
Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have announced Red Dead Redemption, the sequel to the 2004 third-person shooter Western game. Redemption will be released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in Fall of this year.
Like the previous game, Red Dead Redemption is being aimed as a “Western epic” that is set at the turn of the 20th century “when the lawless and chaotic badlands began to give way to the expanding reach of government and the spread of the Industrial Age.”
The story will follow a former outlaw named John Marston who must go on a “great adventure across the American frontier.”
Red Dead Redemption will use Rockstar’s proprietary RAGE engine (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine . . . quite the unique name, that) and features:
* An open-world environment for player’s to explore.
* The game world will include frontier towns, rolling prairies teeming with wildlife, and perilous mountain passes.
* Each area will be packed with “an endless flow of varied distractions.
* Player’s “will experience the heat of gunfights and battles.”
* Player’s will get to meet “a host of unique characters”.
* Player’s will “struggle against the harshness of one of the world’s last remaining wildernesses”
* Player’s will be able to “pick their own precarious path” through the game’s epic story about “the death of the Wild West and the gunslingers that inhabited it.”
“The team at[Rockstar] San Diego have massively exceeded our expectations with the sheer depth of experiences in Red Dead Redemption,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “The seamless combination of breathtaking beauty and intense action, all woven together with strong plotlines in a massive vibrant, rural environment is mind-blowing. We think this game helps to push the limits of what an open-world gaming experience can be.”
I’m always happy to hear of a new Western-themed game as I believe it is an area that doesn’t get enough attention from the video game industry and yet has so much to offer.
