Activision has finally confirmed DJ Hero for a 2009 release. The game has been hovering around and rumored (although we pretty much knew it was in development) for a while now so it is no surprise, although it’s always good to get confirmation.
In this case it was confirmed by Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick who was speaking with CNBC:
“We have this product called DJ Hero coming out later this year, which is a turntable that you actually can play competitively and spin discs and mix songs.”
He also added that music peripherals that Guitar Hero has made famous as well as online play has helped the company reach a wider audience and grow the videogame market.
“This physical interface is definitely starting to have a real impact on the consumer [while] online is creating a much more social experience than videogames have had before. You’re continuing to see lots of innovation that’s adding lots of new audiences.”
I’ll be very interested to see what exactly DJ Hero is and how it plays when the game is fully revealed later this year for currently unspecified systems.
