Electronic Arts has announced that they are re-teaming with Steven Spielberg for Boom Blox 2 in Boom Blox Bash Party, the sequel to their hit Wii block-blasting game Boom Blox. The game is scheduled for release this Spring.

The game will include over 400 new levels that will take gamers from underwater worlds to outerspace and the game will have an increasing focus on multiplayer action.

The game will also offer an online component in the form of Downloadable Content (DLC) that will allow players to download additional levels.

Boom Blox for WiiThe announcement comes on the heels of a ESA (Entertainment Software Association) study that found that family-friendly videogames now account for over half of all video game sales, a huge surge from years past.

Like the first game, Boom Blox Bash Party was the result of a deal in 2005 where EA announced that they would collaborate with Steven Speilberg on three unique titles. The first was Boom Blox, the other two we have not heard from yet but now that EA has announced that they are still working with Spielberg on this new sequel maybe we will hear about the other two title after all, unless this one is part of that original three.

“‘Boom Blox Bash Party’ is a wild social gaming experience,” Spielberg said. “We know families and friends really enjoyed playing the original ‘Boom Blox’ together, so we designed more explosive multiplayer experiences with ‘Boom Blox Bash Party.'”

The original “Boom Blox” is one of the finalists for 2008 Family Game of the Year at next month’s Interactive Achievement Awards presented by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences.
