Updated

36. Pac-Man
36. Alone in the Dark 2 (Directed by Michael Roesch NOT Uwe Boll)
37. Duke Nukem (produced by Depth Entertainment, the same company that brought us the Max Payne film)
38. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
39. Lost Planet (2011) - Script written by David Hayter (voice of Solid Snake and scriptwriter of X-Men, X2, The Scorpion King and Watchmen), produced by Avi Arid and Arad Productions in collaboration with Capcom and distributed by Warner Bros. Capcom says they hope to turn many more of their games into movies and hope Avi Arad will work with them on doing so after Lost Planet).
40. Silent Hill 2 (2010) - Originally scheduled to be developed by Roger Avary and Christopher Gans although now it seems that neither is going to be involved with the project whose screenplay was coming together “very slowly”. The last info on the film seems to be from 2007.

Maybe Someday

Metroid
The Legend of Zelda
Super Mario Bros. 2
Grand Theft Auto - Several rumors were making the rounds including that GTA was considering making a GTA: San Andreas movie and that a GTA movie would star Eminem. Rockstar flat-out denied that ANY GTA movie was ever in the works and said, at the time, that they weren’t even considering it.

I find the fact that Hollywood wants to make so many games based on movies quite curious when you consider how many video game movies have been almost universally panned. Even the good ones are not very critically acclaimed by those “movie critics”.

Of course, since when did that matter? I’ll have you know that I have BOTH Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat Annihilation in my movie collection. And believe it or not, I enjoyed the second movie more than the first, particularly the actor who portrayed Sonya. I also quite enjoyed Hitman, Tomb Raider, Super Mario Bros. and a myriad of other game to movie adaptations. Still haven’t seen Doom . . . And ironically, I didn’t really enjoy any of the Resident Evil films (especially being a huge fan of the games, they were simply too far removed from the games to be that enjoyable in my opinion) but the one I enjoyed the most? You guessed it, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, the second film which is regarded by many to be the worst one.

So who are film critics really? I enjoy a lot of things that are universally panned (such as the Power Ranger series of TV shows, the Pokemon anime, the Clayfighter games, Gilmore Girls, which is one of my favorite shows. Okay so that’s not panned but it’s not a show typically watched by men . . . until they see it . . . and like it. I speak from experience! . . . and the list goes on) so I am not one to really care what people say about something until I try it out myself. In fact I HATE horror movies (especially slashers) and yet I LOVE survival horror games. Like I said I’m a huge Resident Evil fan but I’m also a huge Silent Hill fan and I’ve already reviewed Fatal Frame 1 and hope to play all those games as well as many others such as The Suffering and Manhunt. So I guess the moral of my little tangent is “don’t judge a book by its cover”. Or something like that.

For more details on these movies be sure to check out Video Game Examiner who we thank for the original list.

Thanks to everyone for their comments! Please keep them coming. :)

Thanks to Shilo, Jordan, and Søren Friis for your information. :) I have updated the list to include Uncharted, Lost Planet and Silent Hill 2.

Lewis: I updated the release-date for the Halo movie to reflect the fact that it may not come out this year.

hindahouse: I looked around but could not find any information on a Resistance movie (that is based on the game and not something else). If you find any reliable information please post it here and I’ll update the story.

Jumper: I looked into a GTA movie and posted that info for your reading pleasure. :) It’s under “Maybe Someday”

Avalon: I could find no reliable information on neither a Baldur’s Gate nor a Fallout movie. There is a petition making the rounds though regarding a Baldur’s Gate movie but it’s just that, a petition.

Drakanus: Sorry that you fell for it, but that Zelda movie trailer was actually an APRIL FOOLS JOKE! It was put on and developed (I believe) by IGN . . . who fooled pretty much everyone since they’re fake trailer was so awesome! But I think they proved that a Zelda movie could be awesome if it was done right.

So what game do I want to see most turned into a movie? That would be METROID, which I think would be totally awesome if done right, even with the lack of real characters and Samus speaking. I think if they made her talk it’d actually ruin it. :)

I would like to see the Mortal Kombat movie remake so the film is in finance stage so they would have new actors like Shin koyamada for Liu Kang and MMA hottie Gina Carano for Kitana and Laura Vandervoort as Sonya Blade.
This is just a casting suggestion when the movie gets back on track.
The filmmakers behind Mortal Kombat films should work on more video game movies like trying out Darkstalkers and Capcom should make the deals with Threshold producer Larry Kasanoff to work on the project.
And Onimusha will be based on the Onimusha Warlords game with story character development and Japanese film companies will be involved on the project with producer Samuel Hadida and director Christophe Gans.
So Capcom would join forces with threshold Entertainment to work on the Darkstalkers movie with mix of techno music and techno score and special effects.
Thank You.

this list is invalid.
No Half Life movies and no Deus Ex? F*ck this.

i think that if someone made far cry 2 into a movie it would kick ass. because the game itself has a realy cool story :D

It would be sweet if they did a rival schools movie or a guilty gear x movie :)

SOMEONE NEEDS TO MAKE HEAVENLY SWORD INTO A MOVIE!!! :)

Since the first time I played the game and became a huge fan of the franchise, I’ve always wondered why they hadn’t thought of or even attempted to flirt with the possibility of making a Legacy of Kain or Soul Reaver movie (pretty much the same, but different games). With all the fascination of vampire movies and such, I’ve always found Legacy of Kain to be an original and interesting twist on the vampire genre. It always had it’s own style to vampires and, if done right, would make an interesting movie. I wish someone would reach out to anyone with connections to producers and pitch that idea to them. Plus, if they stuck to the plot of the video game, it would even make things very interesting by starting off with the main characters (Rahzel & Kain) and how they went from comrades to enemies after Kain’s jealousy of Rahzel’s evolution into a greater vampire caused Kain to banish him to his “death” through the vortex and Rahzel ultimately resurrecting to avenge his betrayed past. And as a foreshadow of things to come in future movies, the story can include to mention the elder vampires and their history between the main characters throughout the movie in order to lead the movie into sequels, sort of how Underworld and other movies have done to gain a fan base. I believe as a game alone, it is different than mostly any other game I know because of it’s originality and refusal to follow the traditional vampire style and I’m sure a movie would create similar results and a big interest.

They’re making an Infamous movie, idk about anybody else, but I think it’ll be sweet
