With Ubisoft publishing the Broken Sword Director’s Cut (Wii, DS) that’s in development at Cynamite, series creator Revolution Software are free to focus on Broken Sword 5.

Since the 2006 release of the adventure Broken Sword 4: The Angel of Death (PC), Revolution have been working on an as yet unannounced game. Said game is rumored to be none other than a new 2D illustrated Broken Sword 5 in HD. This would make sense, since fans of the series adore the first two 2D games over the two recent 3D games.

On the developer’s forum they hinted at this new game and why it wasn’t at E3 2008. To quote: “The scope of the project has grown, and we’ve slipped our dates a couple of times, so it keeps being pushed back. [...] Don’t worry, I promise it’s worth the wait, I’m really proud of it.”

It must just be Broken swod: Shadow of the templars, director’s cut. Hope I’m wrong of course. I miss the days that you could play a good old fashioned point ‘n’ click game. A sadly dead genre.

oh.! shit I hate 2D games
I guess the major reason that most of people like the first two versions than the 3D both is the storyline moreover action of the gameplay but they can increase it without making a 2D one additionally if it be a nonlinear game (multiple way to finish the game) then players also will like it now look Angel of Death is it great than the games which released in 2006.? I don’t think so as I think because the animation, actions, story line all are not good they can improve it in the 5th version ,using shader model 2 <( I think shader model 2 enable in directX 9b so the SDK can download from the microsoft site freely not like DirectX 10) and complicate the puzzles
also protagonist should be more attractive ,developer can also make a map for each location ,improve the AI much more ,develop for consoles ,Multiplayer (I mean 2 players can control the 2 characters at the same time so both of can reach the target as combination of alliance not fight with each other) , character has a place for temporary residence like Nico’s place in Broken sword sleeping dragon in France
,vehicles can be controllable ,change the day and night ,add a clock ,play will be given a chance to select the mission that he/she desire so if she/he begin from the wrong place then mission will be over or get more time to finish the game ,realistic emotions ,multiple dialog selections like Elder Scroll IV Oblivion ,multiple endings ,clothes can be changeable, small non more dangerous weapons can be used (like sticks etc.. not pistols, knife for killing people) ,hand to hand fighting ,if the developers add the above things in the next of Broken sword I sure it will be much more better than the all versions

@BLD Dilanga – great, In my opinion that would completely spoil the point of the broken sword series. There are other games you can go and play if you’re after fancy effects and all those other things. Broken Sword should be about the story, the characters and the puzzles, like any good Adventure game, and having it in 2D just makes it easier to keep the style of the original games.
