Are 3D visuals the future of the video game medium? Looks like Sony may think so . . .

MTBS3D has discovered that Sony “fully intends” to bring support for stereoscopic 3D gaming to the PlayStation 3 via a firmware update. British company Blitz Games would be providing the stereoscopic 3D system and it could reportedly come as soon as next year.

The Blitz Tech” engine would allow games to run in stereoscopic modes, allowing for the 3D effect. And although Sony may be the first ones to jump in, it’s a definite possibility that the same technology could be provided for all three gaming systems, meaning the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Although the ability to add it directly to the bios of the PS3 is reportedly unique to that system, although there have been reports that there is a similar feature for the Xbox 360. So I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
