New Blue Dragon RPG announced for DS by Namco Bandai
A new Blue Dragon DS RPG has been revealed by Namco Bandai and Bird Studio as a collaboration with Mistwalker. The full title is Blue Dragon Ikai no Kyojyuu (Behemoth of the Otherworld) and it will be produced by Hideo Baba, the producer of the Tales series of Namco RPGs (whose latest titles are Tales of Vesperia on Xbox 360 and Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World). This is a completely different game (and genre) than the previous DS outing, Blue Dragon Plus.
The announcement will come in the next issue of Japan’s Weekly Jump and revealed that the new Blue Dragon DS game will have an all-new story in the franchise where you play as an entirely user-created character that you can fully customize. The game will also feature equipment and weapons that are completely visible on the character model.
As far as the battle system is concerned, it’s reportedly in real-time but looks more like an MMO than a complete action RPG. The commands seem to e mapped to a hotkey bar. The game will also include a multiplayer mode that will support “many players”. The main character will also be able to use many different shadows.
However even though the game has a new main character, Shuu and company will make appearances in the game but it looks like they won’t be playable.
