Nintendo claims to top Christmas wishlists

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata claims that the Wii and DS are on top of Christmas shopper’s wishlists this years. And who’s going to argue with him?
It’s common knowledge in this day and age that the Nintendo Wii and DS are more white-hot than ever, even years after their initial release. Which is almost beyond comprehension.
As we reported on earlier, the Wii sold 800,000 units over Thanksgiving week, which is more than DOUBLE what it sold last year (which was 350,000). As for the DS, sales of it are up 20% over last Thanksgiving week as well.
The result of these sky-high sales is that Nintendo has “not felt any particular impact from the economic slowdown, with sales of it’s Wii and DS systems still going strong.”
Talk about being in a good place. Nintendo truly can do no wrong as far as sales are concerned, the fact that they can still sell so well even during the economic slowdown is testament to the strength of the Wii and DS among the casual market.
In Satoru Iwata’s own words:
“When the economy is strong, people tend to buy three things from the top of their wish list. But when things are bad, people often buy only the first thing on their list,” Iwata said. “Fortunately for us a lot of shoppers put our products at the top of their list.”
