Mortal Kombat announcer shouts funny absurdities
Everyone loves the Mortal Kombat announcer voice (done by Hernan Sanchez), it’s a classic piece of pop culture at this point and nearly as recognizable as the OTHER famous soundclip, Scorpion’s “Get Over Here!” as can be heard in the latest MK game, Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.
Heck I remember my dad looking on in bewilderement as me and my friends would “fight” each other outside with screams of “Get over here!” with our arms outstretched and the imaginary blood flowing from our fellow mix of friends playing other MK characters, superheroes or characters of their own imagination. My dad of course, had no idea what we were doing or what that phrase came from, but he does now. Ahhh, those were the days . . .
What if you got ahold of Hernan Sanchez yourself, and could have him say any phrase in his iconic voice, what phrases would YOU choose? I think I’d go with stuff like, “I love kittens” and “Oh my God!” among others . . . not very original I know, but would be funny nonetheless.
Well Maxim Magazine got the chance to do just that, and instead of interviewing him like any normal mag would do, they had him say a number of their own phrases. Among them are: “Epic Fail!”, “Flawless . . . Ensemble”, “Forgive Him!”, “I’d Hit That”, “Obama Wins, Flawless Victory”, “Maybe You Should Play Something Else”, “Tickle Him!” and “Are You Going to Finish That”?
My favorite is “Forgive Him!”. I almost wish that was an actual finisher from Mortal Kombat Trilogy or something. Although I guess it’d be the same as “Mercy”, which never got an iconic voice-clip to go along with it now that I think about it.
