Square Enix has announced that they will be bringing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time, a Wii and DS game, to North America in Spring of 2009. The game is scheduled for release in Japan on January 29th.
Echoes of Time tells the story of a teenaged hero who sets out on a quest to save a girl of similar age from a mysterious and life-threatening disease. In order to save her from the “crystal sickness” he must uncover the long lost secrets of an age long ago forgotten and a civilization that has long-since passed away.
This game is not the long-awaited Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers, but a new game entirely which plays similarly to the DS entry, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates (released last March). It relies heavily on action RPG elements as well as puzzles like the previous games and includes four playable races. Wii owners will also be able to import their user-created Miis into the game.
But the most interesting feature is the ability for Wii and DS owners to play online multiplayer together. That’s right, whether you own the DS or Wii version, you will be able to play your friends all the same. Square has also stated that you’ll be able to switch between the multiplayer and single-player portions of the game without exiting it.
