Resistance 3 rumored to continue from Resistance 2′s ending

Resistance 3 PS3 fake boxart As far back as October 2007, there have been Resistance 3 rumors by the likes of Surfer Girl and CVG that suggested that Resistance 2 would feature a cliff-hanger ending paving the way for a third game in the series.

Now that Resistance 2 will be out worldwide this week, fans of the PlayStation 3-exclusive FPS are beginning to finish the campaign. Guess what they are finding out? That developer Insomniac Games saying the game tells “the story of Nathan Hale in his last 19 hours to live” where more than foreshadowing. But that’s not how it ends, in fact, Hale’s last words in Resistance 2 are — and I quote — “Can you hear them? They are calling to us. It’s beautiful. [...] This is just the beginning.”

Obvious spoilers aside, you can watch a camera recording by Slaesil of the ending below (it’s the only ending, there are no alternatives) and judge for yourself how likely a Resistance Trilogy is…

PS: My guess would be that Resistance 3 will be announced in 2009 and released by 2010. Especially with Insomniac mentioning in past interviews that they are enjoying their current Ratchet & Clank / Resistance yearly rotation.

Update October 12, 2009: Neogaffer Goldsounz snapped a photo of a Resistance 3 billboard for an upcoming movie that takes place in Los Angeles, confirming the game’s logo. The logo has the Statue of Liberty in the middle, thus showing the game at least partly takes place in New York, America. To quote: “I saw this billboard today in Shreveport, Louisiana. There are a lot of movies filmed here, and this one is about some sort of alien takeover of Los Angeles; the name of the film escapes me at the moment. Snapped off a few photos of the billboard since I wasn’t sure if the game had been announced yet or not. If not, then I’m surprised Insomniac would be announcing it here of all places.”

I would like to think that if they were to make a Resistance 3 (which i hope they do) I would think the main Character would be someone familiar. but who, Hail is the only person in the series we actually get to know. in number one you sort of get to know that english chick but then on the second one you don’t get so much as a peep out of her.
In the second one theres 2 people you kind of get to know and 1 of them shoots you in the head… but remember that “Great Power” you get after frying daedelus mabye somehow nathan will survive… who knows. but what ever they do if there is a Resistance 3 you can be sure ill be buying it.

Perhaps there will be another game in between like Resistance: Retribution was. and this may give us our next character.

People could it not be possible that perhaps the story will continue through a cloven prespective and also nathan hale’s death seemed slightly suspicious seeing as he in the course of the game takes thousands of bullets and is impossible that not even one hit him in the head…seriously come on near the end of the game he takes on 2 titans single handedly beats deadlus and kills god knows how many chimera Hale really is superhuman and no bullet can kill him.

i think that his death was really suspicious. i mean it didnt show a corpse or even a reaction to the bullet. perhaps with his awesomeness and daedelus’ awesomeness combined he somehow regenerates at ultra high speeds? i think the story will go to russia, because thats where it all began. im really glad hale actually spoke in this game so ill be annoyed if hes really dead.

I hope Hale is dead, it’d be a cop-out if he survived that, and his death is fitting, he dies a heros death.
Plus too many games/movies pull the “kill the main character” schtick and then “wow he’s not actually dead, He is the one!”

we need more permenant deaths of main characters, and less miraculous survivals.

With really popular games like R2, most likely theres gonna be a third one. I think hales not dead. I think hes gonna become datalys. Why? because Datalys said the same thing at the begining of the game.

If they make a R3 I think they should make a single-player where you can play as Nathan or Capelli or you can play as both with co-op. They could probably make the begginng of the game that show Nathan taking the bullet in the head but it didn’t kill him just knocking him out of his chimera state. Than when you play the game as him when Nathan take too much damage he’ll use his chimera powers but if he using them for too long he will become a chimera. I would love it if Nathan retained some of chimera powers because they were cool as hell during the time i used them. They also need to give Cappelli a backstory because he quickly became one of my favorite characters.
