Resistance 3 PS3 fake boxartAs far back as October 2007, there have been Resistance 3 rumors by the likes of Surfer Girl and CVG that suggested that Resistance 2 would feature a cliff-hanger ending paving the way for a third game in the series.

Now that Resistance 2 will be out worldwide this week, fans of the PlayStation 3-exclusive FPS are beginning to finish the campaign. Guess what they are finding out? That developer Insomniac Games saying the game tells “the story of Nathan Hale in his last 19 hours to live” where more than foreshadowing. But that’s not how it ends, in fact, Hale’s last words in Resistance 2 are — and I quote — “Can you hear them? They are calling to us. It’s beautiful. [...] This is just the beginning.”

Obvious spoilers aside, you can watch a camera recording by Slaesil of the ending below (it’s the only ending, there are no alternatives) and judge for yourself how likely a Resistance Trilogy is…

PS: My guess would be that Resistance 3 will be announced in 2009 and released by 2010. Especially with Insomniac mentioning in past interviews that they are enjoying their current Ratchet & Clank / Resistance yearly rotation.

Update October 12, 2009: Neogaffer Goldsounz snapped a photo of a Resistance 3 billboard for an upcoming movie that takes place in Los Angeles, confirming the game’s logo. The logo has the Statue of Liberty in the middle, thus showing the game at least partly takes place in New York, America. To quote: “I saw this billboard today in Shreveport, Louisiana. There are a lot of movies filmed here, and this one is about some sort of alien takeover of Los Angeles; the name of the film escapes me at the moment. Snapped off a few photos of the billboard since I wasn’t sure if the game had been announced yet or not. If not, then I’m surprised Insomniac would be announcing it here of all places.”

in every video game or movie that follows a story line, the main character of the first movie or game lives throughout, may die in the end but will live while the fighting is still going on, examples, Halo, Master Chief dies IN THE END OF THE LAST GAME, Gears of War, idk his name but its the same guy, Half Life, same guy, Die Hard, McLain every time,
Bottom line, Hail HAS to be in Resistance 3 some way or another, even if you don’t play as him, he HAS to be in it, otherwise you can’t really call it Resistance 3

I agree so much with Michael, Nathan Hail has to be in it. i would very much like to see Hail being a playable character, but after seeing the ending for resistance 2, i doubt that he will be playable, but much more likely the last boss in the game, and you are probably going to play as Capelly or however it is spelled. I don’t know about anyone else, but i would like to see someone from insomniac turn resistance into a movie, based exactly on each of the video games.

    Here’s what I think may happen…

Since Capelli, in the ending sequence, was left standing there, alone, then the 3rd game will most likely have him as the hero of the story. Remember how the Angels were leading the Chimaera in the first game, but you killed them, and then Daedulus had mutated into the Human/Angel hibrid we saw in the 2nd game, and then you killed him, and then Hale absorbed the powers (and insanity caused by it) of the Angels, but then Capelli shot Hale in the head. So that means that because they are leaderless, that means that the remaining 8 million Humans that were still alive near the end of the 2nd game will be the last hope for the Human species. Capelli will probably end up leading the Humans against the remaining Chimaea who will most likely, as all armies do when they are faced without leadership and an enemy that has the homefield advantage, be holeing themselves up in the largest of their bases.

Here are a few ideas on what the title of the 3rd game will be:

    - Resistance 3, Final Stand
    - Resistance 3, FInal Resistance
    - Resistance 3, The Last Stand
    - Resistance 3, Rise of Man

I could see Rise of Man being the likely name because Resistance 2 was supposed to be called Rise of man, but they probably decided not to call it that because the Chimaera were still on the war path, so the 3rd one will be called Rise of man because it will show that Humans are rising out of the destruction that the Chimaera caused.

    Thats just my opinion

Oh, and i forgot to mention, Hale will probably become something like a “spirit” or “ethereal presence”, which co-incides with Michaels comments on how, and i quote, “Bottom line, Hail HAS to be in Resistance 3 some way or another, even if you don’t play as him, he HAS to be in it, otherwise you can’t really call it Resistance 3″.

Hmm i was thinking… they all said Hale could end up like Daedelus…. but it took alot more than a shot to the head to take down Deadelus… maybe Capelli leaves Hale there thinking he is dead but he aint. Hale could come back to be the new leader. Who knows maybe at the end of 3 Capelli makes him see the light and we end up with a bad ass chimera Hale fighting with the humans.

Also how hilarious are the powers you get at the end =P screw guns im just gunna make all the chimera around me explode. Also @ Ian, Hale didnt go nuts because of the Angel powers he got from Deadelus… he went nuts because he has finally run out of time and had become a Chimera… still had his own body tho.

Last off what was it Capelli and Hale were looking at in the end? the big black spheres where the ships were… Hale called them beautiful so they cant be good for humanity tho.

  • Ian

I agree on the whole Hale changing into a Chimaera (mentally), but dont forget, He hadnt even completely begun the transformation into a Human-Angel Hybrid, so he still had his human form, which means that it was still “ahem” fragile, so it was still susceptible to a gunshot to the head like any human being.

And i have a theory on those black spheres…

what if they were the broken remains of the Chirmaera Homeworld, or possibly the super weapon that the Chimaera were trying to recover

we wont know until the 3rd game

  • Justin

the way that dadelus was created was that there were 2 subjects in an expirement and it was Jordan Sheperd A.K.A dadelus and Nathan Hale they were both injected with something but dadelus didnt react the same way and hale was able to resist abit of the chimeran virus before turning into what i think might be just like dadelus but he hasnt mutated yet.

  • B Boy

what I want to know is who are the 3rd race that the doctor alludes to who fought the Chimaera in the ancient past?

  • XxHybridxx

I think that the big black sphere ( Chimaren Home world) was teleported by the towers to the humans solar system. Hale will probably regenerate and become some type of hero in resistance 3. As for Capelli hes the lucky bastared that made it out alive! Oh yeah the Chimara have always wanted earth for some sort of resion, so they sent a comet are somthing to earth with there DNA. But they got there ass kickd by the other race that ruled earth. And the chimera came back some how and kicked the humans ass.

  • Clinton

Wow. Hange on. When your fighting Daedelus, remember he says. No humans, no Chimera. Then Hale later says this is only the beginning. Anyone expect something non-human and non-chimeran to show up? I mean Why would Daedelus say: Non of either race? I ever expect a Chimeran homeworld to show up, or a different species. Something the Chimera and humans may need to fight together. (Which is very unlikely, but hey, it would be very cool being a chimera.) Those are my guesses anyway
