Resistance 3 rumored to continue from Resistance 2′s ending

Resistance 3 PS3 fake boxart As far back as October 2007, there have been Resistance 3 rumors by the likes of Surfer Girl and CVG that suggested that Resistance 2 would feature a cliff-hanger ending paving the way for a third game in the series.

Now that Resistance 2 will be out worldwide this week, fans of the PlayStation 3-exclusive FPS are beginning to finish the campaign. Guess what they are finding out? That developer Insomniac Games saying the game tells “the story of Nathan Hale in his last 19 hours to live” where more than foreshadowing. But that’s not how it ends, in fact, Hale’s last words in Resistance 2 are — and I quote — “Can you hear them? They are calling to us. It’s beautiful. [...] This is just the beginning.”

Obvious spoilers aside, you can watch a camera recording by Slaesil of the ending below (it’s the only ending, there are no alternatives) and judge for yourself how likely a Resistance Trilogy is…

PS: My guess would be that Resistance 3 will be announced in 2009 and released by 2010. Especially with Insomniac mentioning in past interviews that they are enjoying their current Ratchet & Clank / Resistance yearly rotation.

Update October 12, 2009: Neogaffer Goldsounz snapped a photo of a Resistance 3 billboard for an upcoming movie that takes place in Los Angeles, confirming the game’s logo. The logo has the Statue of Liberty in the middle, thus showing the game at least partly takes place in New York, America. To quote: “I saw this billboard today in Shreveport, Louisiana. There are a lot of movies filmed here, and this one is about some sort of alien takeover of Los Angeles; the name of the film escapes me at the moment. Snapped off a few photos of the billboard since I wasn’t sure if the game had been announced yet or not. If not, then I’m surprised Insomniac would be announcing it here of all places.”

Truthfully I hate setup games, Halo 2 was a setup game, Gears 2 is a set up game, and of course R2 was a big ass set up game… I hated the ending, I played it and played it and what for, just to see the main character’s head get blown off?

I hope they make it where Hale is the main baddie in the next game… if not I’m not even going to waste my time playing it…

nah. it was good enough. i think if Hale came back somehow, maybe but i wouldnt want to play as someone else.

1 i think he comes back but as the last boss and u have to play as the guy who shot him or 2 that u play as hail but ur bad at first and half way threw u start gaining ur willpower (good guyness) back or 3 (now this would suck but) hails dead and u have to play as whats his face and it will be stupid and u stop the bad guys and whatnot but i hope its one or two (if hails not in it the only reason im gona get it is for online play) ps. wheres the splitscreen conpetitive play it seams ps3 games cant have it did microsoft buy it or something

i hope that A) the hailstorm comes back B) it gets its realisim back a bit(not sure its possible with the way 2 went) C) hale is alive but D) is working with the chick from the first one(the narrative storytelling was a lot better and thought out

Nice idea hurley, if a little cliched. I miss the good old game completion bonuses Insomniac used to be great at: bonus weps, skill points, Insomniac museum. Nopd all we get is a vid of Halegobyebye and a pathetic arcade mode. If youre gonna rip off COD4 (otherwise a good thing, i mean who liked L3 as scope? lol) at least ignore that useless game mode…

well u never know it noly showed his head getting blown off not what happened afterwards. At the end of the game he got some very nice powers off dedaelus maybe he comes back to life as the new baddie. Just some theorising there.

come on guys they go from the scene where they pick him up to them waking him up from a coma theres a huge gap of time there and he acts like hes been around a while 2+2=4 theyl do that. but i will never be conviced theres no other ending that can only be acsesed by jesus magic couse they need hail hes the perfic main charictor you know a broken hero sort of a john McClain diehard syndrone thing
